Sea Breeze Inn & Cottages
Reviewed August 30, 2009

Our room was very nice. We took our 18mo grandson & he was the test. He gets fussy at differant places we stay at. But this one he was right at home from the time we opened the door. My husband said this room was much nicer then most of the places we say at down in Anahiem & Norwalk Ca. And we go at least 4 times a yr. I have already recommended it to friends & family & we will be returning.Great location! We stayed 8/24-/26/09

In these difficult times we are all looking for extra value. The Sea Breeze Inn has it to spare. The rooms are well sized and well kept. The grounds are well landscaped and there is a pool and outdoor fire pit where my family spent a few hours chatting and taking in the beautiful night sky. The inn is close to the Monterey Bay Aquarium where we spent the better part of two days marveling at the great exhibitions. All in all a great vacation and a great value.

Motel has been recently remodeled and done with taste. New linens, drapes, furniture. The grounds are nicely trimmed and manicured. My girls (ages 17 & 20) and I stayed at one of the Inns, which is better than the Lodge side. The staff is very congenial, the rooms are clean, and a bit more spacious than most. There was micro, fridge & coffee maker.

Location in Pacific Grove is good -- on Lighthouse Ave, which is the main street. A little too far to walk to downtown Pacific Grove, but less than 5 minute drive. It's very quiet, heard no neighbor noise, TV works fine.

Okay, so now for the stupid details that were just so irritating:
--NO counter space in the bathroom. There was the narrowest of areas around the sink to fit a couple of toothbrushes and a bar of soap. There was the area on top of the toilet tank. But that's it. For 3 women sharing a bath, place to put hair brushes, make up bags, etc was a challenge.
--ONE towel rack. Come on!!! This is a vacation place -- where do they expect people to hang their freaking towels and swim suits?
--THREAD BARE TOWELS. They were the small, cheap Motel 6 type to begin with, but they were well past their prime. They were to the point that they should have been cut up as rags for housekeeping. Such a stark contrast to the nice bed linens and other room furnishings.
--CHEAP toiletries -- the cheapest of the cheap. No kidding. Again, Motel 6 quality.
--NO separate sink area from toilet/shower. So, if one person was showering or using the toilet, no one else could be in there to put on make up, dry hair, etc.
--Pool is totally unheated and no pool towels. I will say they were quick to provide new ones for the room when we asked.

So overall, since I paid only $70 a night (2 Queen beds) on an internet special, I was OK with the crappy details. However, had I paid over $125 for the room, I would have been pissed. In the future, I MIGHT consider staying there again but only if the price was right.

This is a terrible hotel, and entirely over priced.

The bathroom was tiny, no shower and plain bar soap provided. The room was equally as tiny, and did not look renovated, as described.

We paid and reserved a Queen Cottage. We were given a Standard Cottage, only to realize after we had left it was a standard. We spent the entire week wondering why our bed was so small and room so poorly decorated. We also had ants in the bathroom and a spider in our bed one night.

The staff is incompetent and obviously does not pay attention to detail, hence our stay in a standard cottage for the entire week.

Travelocity has this hotel rated very highly, although it does not deserve all of the great reviews. They are exactly what convinced us this was such a nice hotel - from this point on Travelocity reviews will be taken with a grain of salt and I will go elsewhere for honest reviews.

I am a very picky, frequent traveler and have stayed in many 5-star hotels all over the US and in Europe. I stayed at Sea Breeze Inn in one of the cottages for several months while relocating to the area and looking for a house. The exterior is modest, the interiors are newly redone in excellent taste, the cottage was immaculate and quiet [I was at the back of the property] The area is very quiet but in an excellent location. The gorgeous Monterey Coast is within a few blocks as is a beautiful municipal golf course. The coast is breathtaking, and you are in the forest and when out walking see lots of deer. You are near the Monterey Aquarium, Cannery Row [note: off-price brand name outlets], the 17-mile drive through Pebble Beach and over to Carmel. And Asilomar Natl' Park [very interesting] and Asilomar Conference Center.

You are also blocks from quaint and historic downtown Pacific Grove with all the ammenities closeby like Post Offices/movies/cleaners/laundrymat/excellent restaurants. But the Inn itself is very quiet and there is WiFi and a very nice Continental Breakfast. The staff is excellent and friendly. I would definitely stay here again...the monthly winter rate and location makes this an excellent place for snowbirds, too.

This review is for The Sea Breeze Inn on Monterey Bay, CA . The price we paid was around $135 per night for a room with two queen beds. The room was itself OK, nothing extraordinary. The bath, though, is a serious problem. The faucet had definitely no place to put your soap, contact case, etc. at all. Really, absolutely no space! There was hardly any space to fit in your hands in the sink either. The shower was old and the flooring seemed dirty. The toilet was below standard size, which could cause trouble for big guys. The lighting of the room was insufficient. The people in the front desk were very helpful and there was an OK breakfast. But thats basically all this hotel can offer. I would probably look for some place else to stay if I visited Monterey once again, which I doubt.

Well --- we stayed in one of the Sea Breeze cottages... it was cute, it was small, it was quiet... nearest neighbors were about 20+ feet away. For a honeymoon that part was very nice - no noise, no worries, no yelling kids... however.... the cottage from the outside looked like a converted 12'x20' storage shed or garage. (that's how they are detatched from others). The bed was comfortable but the bathroom only had a shower. That was fine, just wasn't what I'd thought from a 'hotel'/cottage. The heater worked good, which was great because it was november and rainy. The room had just linoleum - no carpets. that was a little odd. Not even a throw rug. They did add a fridge and microwave for us, but we had to request it. For the price, it was over rated. But for the quiet and not sharing walls with a neighbor it was nice. Just don't expect anything fancy ... at all.
