I stayed with a friend Vet's wk,and had a great time. The Lodge is older, but it was clean, view was great the people employed there were great.Don't know what happen to the people that gave this place a bad review, there was nothing bad about this place, other then it is an older lodge like alot of things in Pacific Grove. That's what make it so great and welcoming. Will be back and I live about 50 miles away so another long wkend will be great.

Room Tip: get 2nd floor front or 3rd for a good view

Stayed two nights with a travelzoo deal and was pleasantly surprised. The younger woman at the front desk was very friendly, and helped us with a map to determine places to go (the closest beach, etc) and potential places to eat (although I went with Yelp reviews on that). The room was nice, clean carpet, small but clean bathroom (soap, shampoo, conditioner & lotion provided), comfortable beds (but only so/so pillows), small fridge & microwave were nice & clean - only gripes would be the latch on the sliding glass door to our balcony (very sticky and not secure) and the heater (no thermostat - just a dial with no markers - but it worked). We got a free upgrade to a balcony room with partial ocean view which was nice. The walls are definitely thin, some noise at night, if you're a light sleeper might be worth bringing earplugs. All that said, the location was quite nice & the room was quite pleasant - close to beautiful beaches, walking distance to the monarch sanctuary (although there's not much for sidewalks in the area) and just a short drive to the aquarium. The breakfast was better than I expected - reasonably good bagels, english muffins, donuts, muffins and good looking & tasting bananas, apples & oranges. We saw deer in the area & lots of woodpeckers right across the street. Just a tip - bring bottled water - the water in Pacific Grove tastes metallic, and bottles of water go for $1.50 in the lodge vending machine. The Vietnamese restaurant just next door was also good, smallish portions & a bit $$ ($45 for 3 non-meat dishes), but still good and what can you expect from a tourist town - the next night we just got delivery pizza from Mountain Mike's $25 with tip for an extra large, kept the leftovers in the little fridge. For the price, and potentially for a little bit more, I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: If you're sensitive to noise try to get a room on the top floor.

We stayed at the Olympia Lodge for two nights after purchasing a Travelzoo deal. Our past experiences with Travelzoo have all been good, however this deal was not so good. Perhaps no one at Travelzoo actually saw the guest rooms and experienced the noise from the surrounding rooms and walkways.
The hotel website boasts "We've remodeled our rooms from floor to ceiling!" Hmmm, not quite the truth.
We had a standard king room. The entry door was a sliding glass door that was very difficult to slide open and closed. (original aluminum framed single pane door) It was also very noisy. We certainly heard the people above us and next to us opening and closing their doors. There were plantation shutters on the sliding doors that were torn up because most people don't know you have to close the shutters to slide them open. That meant we had to mess with the shutters to get them to stay closed. Even closed, light from the walkway came streaming in at night.
The carpet looked newer. Some of the furniture looked a little newer and the bed was pretty comfortable. However, some of the furniture looked old and the old whicker chairs were uncomfortable. The nightstands didn't match. The TV was the old tube style. The closet had limited access due to it's corner position. The bathroom was not remodeled at all. Very old tile in the shower. Mold on ceiling. Floor around toilet was grey and sagging. Toilet seat felt like it was going to fall off when you sat on it. There wasn't a single towel bar, not even a hand towel ring in the whole room.
The continental breakfast was okay. It's set up in the small office, so people are in each other's way trying to get food and coffee. Very limited seating. Standard continental breakfast foods, bagels, breads, muffins, donuts, yogurt, cereal, oatmeal, bananas and apples. They didn't have decaf coffee out, so I had to ask for it. They were happy to make some for me, which was nice.
The upside is the motel is close to the Pacific Monarch Sanctuary (within walking distance), and close to downtown Pacific Grove and not far from Cannery Row in Monterey. We enjoyed the location, but not the hotel.

This motel definitely needs some updating. Our balcony room was adequate, but, as some have mentioned, did have a musty smell. The frig. is minute in Room 218, which has an extremely small bathroom with an outside sink, next to the entrance door. We feel that this motel cannot honestly claim to be a "Bed and breakfast" as breakfast is in the small reception area and consists of cold cereal, muffins, doughnuts and watery coffee. We would not justify staying here at the normal price, but this was a special through Travelzoo.

Room Tip: Smell the room before unpacking.

By far one the best staffed places I have stayed. The room for us was nice, clean and pretty big. The beds are comfy, however the rooms may need a little up dateing and no handicap rooms or elevators. That is the reason for the 4 stars. If you dont mind the stairs and the out of date tv it is perfect. we enjoyed our stay so much that we stayed one more night and they gave us a really good deal. The deal we had made it worth it. Not sure if I would spend 100.00 or more a night for this lodge.

Room Tip: No fitness center or pool. We had a room with a balcony and that is extra

Stayed Sunday-Monday nights. Paid $20 extra for a balcony and Ocean View. Very pleasant large room, scenic view of trees and ocean in the near distance. Very much a Lodge-like atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. However, nothing seemed new or newer, refurbishing recommended. Neighbors chatting on their balcony were a major distraction, forcing us to close our balcony door for quiet and sense of privacy. Yes, I would return.

Room Tip: Ask for second floor and balcony for quieter rooms.

The hotel is a lovely place but needs to be more clean. The bedroom is very big but what about the housekeeping. It wasn't so good. There is no breakfast room such a shame.
The front desk staff is friendly. So it's a good place to stay but forget details otherwise you will be disappointed.
