“Very Nice Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2007

My wife and I along with two other couples stayed @ The Lover's Point Inn for four nights during July 2007. We really enjoyed the property, the staff was very friendly and helpful.
The view of the ocean and Lover's Point Park across the street is just beautiful. We will stay here again upon our return to the area !!!!

Lover's Point is a great value for Monterey. This Inn is older but taken care of. I stayed on the ground floor (cheapest floor) and had to deal with noise from water running above me. I would not recommend the room above the underground parking exit, which is the room I was in. Cars frequently spin their tires while exiting. Staff was very helpful in all my encounters with them.

There is a GREAT restaurant next door (Latitude's) with ample windows to sit and view the ocean. Restaurant has friendly staff and an inviting lounge. Walk across the street to the beach, tide pooling and watching the waves crash on the rocks. The beach tends to be secluded from the wind and is child friendly. Walk 3 blocks up to adorable downtown Pacific Grove. I recommend bringing your bike and biking around to Asilomar or into Cannery Row area and Fisherman's Wharf.

There are only 2 hotels on this point and I have stayed at both. I would recommend both of them to others. However, if you have the money, stay on the upper floors of Lover'sPoint Inn. You definitely can't beat the price for the area.

  • Liked — Location at Lover's Point and great price.
  • Disliked — Roome smelled a little until I opened window for a while.

We pitched up in Monterey on a Saturday afternoon looking for a hotel and ended up outside the Pacific Grove chamber of commerce. This was shut but there were accommodation availability sheets outside in a box as well as a couple of maps, so we headed for the Lovers Point Inn.

As other reviews have said, the building is a bit dated and could do with a bit of work. I'd hate to be in the rooms next to the elevator & vending machines, but our room was upstairs at the far end from reception. The room was OK - bed was comfortable enough, coffee machine worked - and wasn't particularly expensive, especially given that it was a Saturday night on the coast. Heating was a bit strange - the room had an electric heater controlled by a wall thermostat so you can just dial in the temperature you want, but a modern air conditioning unit would be much better.

Location is good - you can walk to Monterey Aquarium along the shore path and see the seals in the fenced-off section, and you can hire bikes from nearby. Very close to the beach.

The hotel is outdated but clean. Our bed was quite hard (and I like firm beds!) and our bottom floor room was kind of noisy with people coming and going. Being very close to the ocean is nice. We got a decent rate but you can do better in the area if you shop around.

We checked into The Lover's Point Inn and were a little wary based on some of the comments we read. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful when we asked for directions. The hotel is older and not in perfect condition, but the rooms were clean which was what really mattered to me. And I think they are trying to upgrade, in our room the bedspreads and pillows looked brand new.

Parking can be a problem if you have an SUV. There is plenty of underground parking for smaller cars, but the clearance of six feet is really six feet as you exit the ramp. We were able to park in front of the hotel, and walked to downtown Pacific Grove and the beach.

Breakfast is as we were told "sugar and caffeine", but there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance. Also, the rooms do have a refrigerator and most have a microwave, which was a nice surprise. Access to the beach and park can't be beat. For the price, I think Lover's Point Inn is a fine place to stay.

When we arrived at Lovers Point Inn the check-in desk lady was very nice. We went to our room and I turned down the bed. Well, that's when the trouble started. The blanket was old, ratty, and had cigarette burns in it and the sheets had dried blood on them. I went to the front office and asked for new bed sheets. The maintenance man brought them by (and this blanket was much nicer, practically brand new) and just left them in a bag on the bed for me to put on. Then demanded to see the spots on the sheets. When he left our room he said very loudly..."Gee, guess we've got a picky one here." I thought it was very rude.

The room was small and layed out weird. No actual closet and the bathroom was hard to fit in. The bathroom door didn't close all the way because the door frame was smaller than the door. The shower was rusty and water would still come out from the faucet in the bathtub if you had the shower on so it couldn't drain fast enough and you'd end up wading in water.

It was very close to cannery row though. We were able to walk there in about 20 mintues, along the coast with sealions on the way. Definetely a good location and not a bad price. Good for budget travelers but be sure to check the bed sheet before you climb in.
