We visited Archie's on a Monday night at about 6:45, business was slow...one other couple. We went to the take out window to bring the food back to our motel room. The hamburgers were so-so...not formed and falling apart, tasteless, and greasy. The buns were not fresh, even crumbling as we tried to hold the burger. The order of garlic fries were plentiful but all of the seasonings (minced garlic) was in one spot so spreading that around onto the other fries while we were in our motel room was a task we gave up on. Not sure if we got there too late or if it was just Monday Blue's but Archie's did not live up to the reviews we had read and had hoped to experience. We won't be back to the aquarium for a year and doubt if we'll be back to Archie's ever.

I've been to Archie's numerous times over the years and it is a must for any visitor to the area. Great for people watching, as the hiking trail is just across the street. The best burgers you'll ever taste. Wonderful service and down to earth prices. A visit to Archie's is a glimpse of America the way it used to be, the way it should be, and when you're at Archie's, it feels like it still is.

We picked this place solely because we wanted to get a quick and reasonably priced breakfast before visiting the Monterey Bay Aquarium across the street. We got exactly that, but we also got great tips for saving money on that visit, a four-hour validation of our parking in the city lot, and a special price for returning for lunch. Both meals - for four adults and two kids - satisfied all of us, and were among the most economically priced of a four day trip through Big Sur and back down to LA. The only disappointment was that they were out of the sand dab lunch special, which a couple of us were really looking forward to.

Archie's Diner sits right at the end of Cannery Row which was a great location after a day of sightseeing. We ate on the outdoor patio w/ a great ocean view. I had the clam chowder in the breadbowl. It was pretty good, but there are far superior clam chowders in the area. My friend had the turkey sandwich that tasted good, but was a bit pricey for just a sandwich w/ no sides. But their prices still beat most places on Cannery Row. I would probably go again, especially for the location and view.

It can be quite expensive visiting the Monterey acquarium. So it's nice to know there is a reliable, good-value diner close by. The food was good standard diner fare, with the occasional nice touch like real strawberry sauce on the ice-cream.
