Cross street: Lighthouse & Laurel
Description: Stroll along 17th St., between Lighthouse and Laurel and you will find one of the Peninsula’s favorite spots, La Mia Cucina. This little jewel, with its fresh ambiance and tantalizing menu, is popular with everyone. The colorful European advertising posters that enliven the walls, are “originals, not reproductions.” That phrase is accurate in describing La Mia Cucina itself. From the comfortable linen white decor, accented beautifully by those turn-of-the-century posters, to the hand-crafted entrees and desserts, everything about La Mia Cucina says fresh and original. Owner Michael’s specialty, his ravioli dishes, are a renowned local favorite, and for good reason. They are hand made, with all the care that only a lifetime of creative food combining can bring. In addition to pasta, La Mia Cucina is known for it's fresh fish and meat specials. The desserts are made in-house by his wife Paula and daughter Michaela, and the service is personal and inviting.

Great food, attentive but not obtrusive service, and reasonable. What more can one ask?

I'm rating the little pizzeria next door to the main restaurant where you order at the counter. You can either sit or take your food to the beach! Great high quality, traditional Italian. The crust could be thinner but the (cheese-free) margerita was deelish. The sauce was complex and smooth, the basil super fresh. Everybody loved the food and the atmosphere is fabulous... in a little Victorian house. I kept hearing about the caesar salad and the tiramisu. Very casual, fast and friendly (hiring such a cute guy can't hurt!). I'm already a regular.

“Nothing Special”

Uneven service. I have had much better Italian food. Found the place pretentious and too expensive for the quality of the food served.

“Great food that wion't kill your wallet.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 18, 2007

I live in the area and wanted a good Italian meal in a nice atmosphere. From the moment we were greated by Joe Rombi himself to dessert, the meal was flawless.

The service was attentive but not rushed, the portions generous,, the menu diverse and the food well-prepared.

“Our favorite place for special occasions”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2006

We love the food and atmosphere at La Mia Cucina and try to go there for all of our special family occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. Joe and the staff are always pleasant and attentive, and the food is out of this world. We especially like the rice ball appetizers and all of the pastas. Save room for dessert!
