“As good as we'd hoped”
Reviewed June 27, 2009

We decided to try the Red House after so many positive reviews on TA and it was very good. The wait is a bit longish but some had said to expect that. Once inside we were given a nice table by the front corner and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. We shared a huge salad of fresh local greens and the crab cake appetizer - long day of sight seeing and we had had tea time at the Old St. Angela Inn so not much room or energy for much more. Both dishes were delicious - probably some of the best crab cakes and we've had em everywhere! Prices seemed to be right in line for the area.

“The best pork tenderloing sandwich I've ever had.”
Reviewed May 23, 2009

I finally visited the Red House Cafe with a friend after having lived only a few blocks away for over a year. I regret that I've only found this lovely cafe now!

The pork tenderloin sandwich was indescribably delicious and surprisingly large. The prices were reasonable and the service friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this cafe if you're in Pacific Grove!

“What have we been missing?”
Reviewed May 6, 2009

We go to PG a couple of times a year for a long weekend and have a few favorite restaurants. This now has become one of them. Not fancy but I'd call it honest comfort food. We shared a very generous salad of local greens. The seafood entre was beautifully presented and enough for two. The steak was perfectly prepared. The kitchen knows how to cook vegetables so they taste like vegetables not soggy slop from a can. I’m told that the soups and pies are great but we didn’t try either. There are some adventurous things on the menu so beware. The folks next to us had smoked salmon pizza that looked too strange. The chief came out twice to check on us and answer our how do you make questions. Staff was very attentive and prompt. It’s small and doesn’t take reservations for less than 6. Go for an early dinner or late lunch. It’s a bit funky and a little crowded inside. It is an old house that was turned into a café restaurant so you have a bunch of small spaces and seating outside if the weather is good. Will definitely return.

“Don't miss!!”
Reviewed April 23, 2009

A cute, little house on Main Street (well, Lighthouse Ave!) that knows how to make great food! We don't EVER miss going here for breakfast or lunch! It's far enough away from the busy, touristy areas near the ocean yet feels likes it's still not hidden or out of the way. Nice, comfortable, clean ambience with pure talent in the kitchen! A true locals favorite within walking distance to a some cute shops! LOVE the gourmet grilled cheese at lunch or the yummy french toast at breakfast. Really, everything tastes amazing & delicious! Definitely worth the wait if you arrive and a table isn't available. A true DON'T MISS spot!

“good soup”
Reviewed April 2, 2009

We heard the soup was good here and it was - that's all we had since we were not too hungry - a few locals came in and were greeted by name - the waitress could just about order for the local she knew her so well - snapper was the special of the night and that's what the local had
