“The good, the bad, and the annoying...”
Reviewed June 6, 2013 via mobile

Stopped here for an early lunch today. The good, the food was piping hot...hubby loved the clam chowder and I enjoyed the excellent green mussels as an appetizer. Too bad the server didn't bother telling us about the specials until AFTER we ordered our lunch, as I would have preferred to try the clams. Hubby enjoyed the tilapia with a Cajun crust but didn't care for half a plate filled with rice and black beans compared with the tiny fish portion. I had the squid sandwich - it was okay but the Caribbean tartar sauce the waiter encouraged us to try was nothing more than mayo mixed with ketchup and a dash of hot sauce! Still, it was okay and certainly a very filling portion of food. The annoying part of lunch was the waiter himself, who seemed inclined to hover over us and tell us his life story! We were trying to enjoy a quiet lunch as we were celebrating our anniversary and the waiter just wouldn't stop yakking at us. His intrusion keeps me from rating this restaurant higher.

“Great service and food”
Reviewed June 4, 2013

Service at Fishwife is top notch. When traveling in the area we've stopped here before and both times the food was great. Would highly recommend.

“Surprisingly good”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We had lunch here after a huge hike along Asilomar Beach. It's literally the last food stop before you hit 17-mile drive (that is unless you want to go into the Inn at Spanish Bay which is ridiculously expensive ...

We had the seafood wrap and the seafood quesadilla. The coffee was bad, and I sent it back even though I was told it had just been made, it tasted burned. However, the food was GREAT. Very hearty portions, and both our plates were stuffed with seafood. No complaints here. The place was clean and well-run (which is more than can be said for the adjacent hotel that looked like it needed to be torn down ..)

“a good restaurant with good service and great atmosphere”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

friends recommended it before. this time we finally found it with the help of a smart phone. we had a large group and they accommodated us very well even though the restaurant was very busy. service was professional and the food was good, so everybody agreed to leave them a fat tip.

“Underwhelmed”
Reviewed May 27, 2013

After passing by this place a number of times on other trips to the area, three of us finally got around to trying it for dinner a few weeks ago. We were rather early and got seated right away, but even though only about a third of the tables were filled it took a long time to get drinks or have our food order taken. My two friends each ordered a sauted shrimp dish and I ordered sole piccata. All the dishes came with some sort of cream-based sauce (in piccata??), plus very standard steamed broccoli, a mound of rice, and black beans. There didn't seem to be any variation in the sides, no matter what the fish was. None of the food was actually terrible, just disappointingly dull and lacking in spark. It implied a tired, uninterested kitchen. Perhaps we should have had something fried instead--much harder to do badly.

I will say, however, that the service--when we got it--was very pleasant, and the space quite clean & comfortable and not overly noisy even when more people showed up. All in all, it reminded me of seafood restaurants from 25-30 years ago. It wasn't horrible, but I won't be going back.
