Clean and tidy rooms, large free car park with rooms starting at $89 a night.
Found this motel via tourist information office who was really helpful and made the booking for us. Really lovely walk from here into town centre, but the views from the hotel were amazing!!!! Yes you can probably get a more modern room at another hotel but what you will not get are the views and it will cost you 3 times the price, Best Western $249 a night plus $13 to park your car and a view of the holiday in across the street!! No breakfast facilities but offer coffee in the lobby every morning, you can even hear the seals! really glad we found this place for our road trip

Room Tip: Room with a partial view gives you a great view into town, out to sea and over the bay $109

Have stayed here twice. Always enjoy it not a great motel but the location is awesome. The people are great and Pacific Grove is great. Motel is clean and comfortable but basic would give it 2 stars if just off the freeway but its location is 5 stars. Its clean and the people are nice hence 4 stars....... for the price can't be beat

Room Tip: Get a bay view or probably won' t be happy

My husband and I have enjoyed four stays at the Borg's Motel. The price is very reasonable and we have always enjoyed a clean comfortable room. This is an older motel, so don't expect a lot of frills. For us, the sound of waves crashing right across the street makes this the perfect getaway.

Room Tip: If available, choose an Ocean view on the second floor!

We needed a place for only one night so that we could tour Cal State Monterey Bay and Borg's prices were better than any of the other places out there plus it was on the ocean. The location is very nice and the motel itself is clean, yes it's dated and older but that sort of adds to the charm. The room was decent in size and the shower was small but clean. Many reviews say that they do not provide shampoo- they actually do- you need to ask for it in the office and they will happily give you some- they also have hair dryers available. The only complaint I can think of is cell service/free wifi- very hard to keep my calls, they kept dropping and the wifi was extremely slow and I wasn't doing anything fancy, just checking emails. When we head that way again, I will stay at Borg's again- from the office window we saw an otter and a seal- what more can you ask for?

Super friendly staff, great location but low standard. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. The rooms were ok but unfortunately not aired enough - it didn't smell nice in it! One of the cheapest place we could find in Monterey area but still not that much value for money.

so let me start by saying i did my homework, read the reviews and had a pretty good idea of what to expect THAT is why it got a " good" review. it is very good for what it is, hopefully that makes sense. it's better than average in some ways, great in a few, but not so much in others.
when people say it's basic they are NOT joking even a little.

our old tv was on a dresser NEXT to our bed, so it was difficult to watch (not that we did much anyway, just news and shark week).

the shower earns a -1 star rating, it is so small, i'm only 5"7 and under 140 and the shower head hit me in the middle of my head, and it can't be more than 3ft x 3ft. i can not express how hard it was to shower, forget shaving your legs. if you turn around with your elbows out expect them to hit the walls. the bathroom window is the old fashioned type where there are glass slats that open with no screen and if someone were out there they could see in. our view was of the empty building next door's trash and yuikk. there is a heater light in the bathroom if you are cold. the sink area is basically freestanding with NO work area, a tiny shelf big enough for a brush and contact solution.

like another reviewer we used this room to sleep and shower .. THAT is IT. for what we needed it worked fine as we had an idea of what to expect.

our sheets were clean as was the room, it felt and smelled very fresh each day.
yes, you need your own shampoo, but i take my own anyway. so no big deal.
the towels seemed average size to me.

there is plenty of parking, and it's right outside your door so you hear all of that along with every noise your neighbor makes. we slept with our fan (personal) and noise maker going all night and could still hear stuff.

the room lets in TOOOOO much light. we asked for a blanket to cover the top part of the window where the curtain didn't reach.. it was still too bright at night.

this is not a restful place in my opinion. we were close to the front, but even walking the beach we could barely hear the waves, maybe it's different in the winter when they are crashing harder. i would not count on hearing them as there is also traffic to cross from the hotel to the coast.. not really even a beach.

the location is truly the saving grace. you can easily get on the very nice walking path and go for miles along the pretty shore, Cannery Row or if you are incredibly ambitious Monterey Bay maybe. there are places to eat in Cannery Row, primarily seafood. there is also a good aquarium to walk to but it's really pricey. the views are pretty and the coast exploring is great.

no microwave, fridge or 3 prong outlets in the room (3 prong in bathroom)

it's in a quieter area, except for the traffic noise during the day and a little bit at night. is traffic heavy, no, but traffic is traffic.

the man that checked us in was very helpful and kind. there were 2 women at other times and they were just ok..

cell service here is horrible! we had to text our room number to my sister so our kids could call, well the front desk doesn't always answer due to short staffing so they only got through once after trying multiple times.

the MAGIC question ~ would i stay here again? NO. but i don't regret staying here for the $100 a night due to location and a just staying a few days. we were on a budget and this fit the bill. so why the 3 star, good rating? because it was very good for being a 2 star hotel due to its location, cleanliness and location and yeh, location :)

Room Tip: uhhhh.. this is hard. IF you only need a place to crash, know what to expect then i would only do th...

We stuffed up our booking for Monterey and inadvertantly booked the Seven Gables in St Louis! By the time we realised this it was after 10pm and we had to find alternative accommodation at late notice. Found the Borg's hotel just around the corner. Friendly staff member assisted and gave us room 129 which was on the second floor corner. The room was neat and clean and it wasnt until we woke up the next morning to look out the window that we saw the amazing views! The location is brilliant. Had views of seals lying around on the rocks directly outside the room. The value of this location was great and the room very comfortable.

Happy to recommend the Borg's hotel. Just when we were checking out another couple quizzed us about the hotel as they say mixed reviews online and we were more than happy to show them the room and they were sold! My suggestion is to pay a little extra ($20-30 I think) for the sea views on upper level. You wont be disappointed!!

Room Tip: Book room 129! Its on the upper south corner so you get a side window for extra light
