“Lovely beach with biodiversity on display”
Reviewed April 4, 2014

Asilomar beach is a lovely place and a visit to the Monterey peninsula would be incomplete without visiting it, in my opinion. It is located in Pacific Grove, within easy distance of downtown Monterey, and is also very easily accessible via public transit (MST Bus #1 has a stop at the Asilomar Conference Grounds from where a short boardwalk leads to the beach). The beach has an initial sandy stretch near the boardwalk, but a trail winds along and leads to rockier segments. It is extremely picturesque. Furthermore, one can spot lots of interesting organisms such as algae, sea anemones, turban snails, crabs, etc. along the beach. Depending on the season, one may also encounter trailside flowers.

After a stroll on the trail, one can relax a bit in the Hearst Social Hall located next to the Park Store within the Conference Grounds, which has comfortable seats. There is also a cafe here.

“Great view, but cold and windy.”
Reviewed March 27, 2014

I really nice for a walk on the beach or have a picnic, but it can get chilly and windy fast. It can be foggy soon too

“Relaxing place for a walk”
Reviewed March 26, 2014

I visited several days while at a conference at the Asilomar conference grounds. The trails are very well maintained, and quite extensive. They have lots of signs describing the wildlife and the evolution of the sand dunes. The main beach gets pretty crowded on a sunny afternoon, but the trails that lead down through the nature preserve leave you pretty isolated in a hurry.

“Spectacular!”
Reviewed March 25, 2014

What else is there to be said? Asilomar is one of my favorite stretches of Monterey coastline. I've visited in beautiful sunny weather, when the ocean is the most amazing turquoise and also when the skies and the ocean are gray. I definitely prefer the sunny days, but it is beautiful any time of the year and in any weather. I'm truly amazed that there are a few "average" reviews! Who are these people??
