“Great Location, Quiet Retreat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2008

We stayed at the Sea Breeze Lodge as sort of a second honeymoon (we were just married in April). The room was fine; the location was quiet and not too far from the beach. We had a king size bed, and those rooms (ours was #410) must be a bit bigger than some as there was plenty of room to walk without stubbing toes, etc. Yes, the room was small but unless you're spending tons of time there, who cares? The only downside was the bathroom. Water pressure was just so-so, and the first morning, we ran out of hot water. The bathroom looked like it was in the middle of a remodel as there was a new tub and shower, but the floor was in need of repair/replacement, and there was no towel rack in the bathroom (the holes are in the wall for one though). The continental breakfast was served across the street in the office where the Sea Breeze Inn and Cottage property is. It was basic - bagels, muffins, orange juice and coffee. If you want a more substantial breakfast (and we did), go to Holly's Lighthouse Cafe in Pacific Grove. It's a short 4 minute drive from the Lodge and well worth it. Charming, modestly priced and wonderful service. Monte's (across the street) had good food as well, but not the ambience of Holly's. If you go to the Sea Breeze between October and March, walk up the street to the butterfly sanctuary to see the monarchs!

This place was nice for an older hotel. Maybe I would call it a motel but not run down. Room was small but good enough. Location was great. Walking distance to Point Pinos. Breakfast was great and the people were nice. Mattress was hard.

I thought I would submit a review for this hotel as I stayed there a couple of years ago. I wanted a two rooms joined so that my kids would be close by. They gave me one of their 'suites' across the street from main part of the hotel. I was pretty disappointed the rooms were tiny and just overwhelmed by the beds that they had shoehorned into the space. There was no room to unpack or keep your luggage. I had to ask them to take some furniture out so we could move around. It was tatty and rundown and just about clean. The locks on the door were also poor.
However it was cheap and the location was good just a shame that after a long day you had to come back and deal with the very cramped hotel room. Good for one night but after that you might get a little stir crazy

The Sea Breeze Inn has cottages on one side of the street, and the lodge (attached rooms) on the other side of the street, with parking just outside your door. We stayed in one of the lodge rooms for 3 nights in mid-April, 2008. The location of this place is excellent, and the price was great considering most places in the area cost three times as much! We were in a small unit with 2 double beds in one room, and another double bed and couch in the other room. There was one small sink/mirror/refrigerator area between the rooms at one end, and a very small bathroom at the other end. I know they tried to make this place homey and all, but there were just too many decorating items everywhere...on the walls, on the tops of furniture...and there was too much furniture in such a small area too. I badly bruised one of my feet tripping over the iron leg of one of the dressing tables. There was a TV in each room. The beds were very comfortable, but I'm just under 5 ft 5 inches tall and I had a very difficult time getting up onto them since they were very high. The staff was pleasant about any problems we had, but many things were never attended to during our stay. In our room, one of the remotes didn't work; and we couldn't plug in the TV, microwave, and lamp at the same time. I'm afraid the bathroom was the real disaster. The shower was OK, but you couldn't sit straight on the toilet...there wasn't enough leg room...so you had to sort of sit sideways. Also, you couldn't get to the toilet unless you closed both doors that opened into the bathroom...it was just an odd configuration...too tiny a room. Having the sink so far away from the actual bathroom wasn't too convenient either. With 3 adults sharing all the rooms, it was just a bit cramped. There is an outdoor pool and jacuzzi on the property, but we didn't have a chance to use it. They provide a continental breakfast in the motel office each morning...coffee, bagels...very basic. Still, you can't beat location or the price.

Monterey can be very pricey for not much quality. But this little hotel/motel was really pleasant, and very reasonably priced by comparison. The room was generously sized and nice looking, quiet and set back from the road a bit. It was very cold outside, but our shower was hot, heater worked great, and our side of the hotel had free internet. They were very friendly about holding our luggage after we checked out, so that we could go to the aquarium.
A tiny bit off the beaten track, but not so far that you begin to wonder if you've made a mistake! Just drive a couple of miles north from the main wharf area, into the adjacent neighborhood, Pacific Grove (toward the lighthouse), and get treated to great scenery and lots of nice restaurants.

When we first pulled into the Sea Breeze Lodge it seemed like an unassuming property and I wondered if the rooms would be the same. When we opened our door we were very pleased to see a beautifully decorated room with a nice large patio and a separate bedroom as well. The mattress was so comfortable I asked the front desk what brand it was. For those of you that don't frequent the area, Pacific Grove is on the very point of the Monterey Peninsula and is flanked on the south by Pebble Beach and Monterey to the north. It is a gem of a town with quaintness to spare. The downtown is small but dotted with stately Victorian homes and small shops and restaurants. It is also home to a very pretty shoreline that the city has seen to put a recreational trail on. All in all it is a spot that everyone within a few hours drive should take advantage of.

We are from England and had the most wonderful stay in Pacific Grove. The natural beauty of the Monterey Peninsula is a far cry from city living in London. The Sea Breeze Lodge was very reasonably priced and had very pleasant rooms and service.

I will say that one must take highway 1 to Big Sur if you really want the California experience. There is a restaurant called Nepenthe in Big Sur that hovers above the Pacific Ocean and is a very casual spot to enjoy the sun and views.
