Our visit was just as I imagined. Perfect location with unbelievable views. Maybe a bit Victorian fussy for some, a little less decor would be nice. It can be overcast in the spring and summer but that is to be expected in the Monterey/Carmel area. Cosy afternoon with lovely wine and cheese service and met interesting guests. Breakfast was great, all freshly prepared and in season. Brought our bicycles to visit 17 mile drive and YES the sun came out. Very enjoyable and will visit again. Don't forget to sit in the garden to relax and read after exploring the area. We alway enjoy a dinner at Passion Fish, reservations needed and Inn will take care of that. Fresh seafood and great local wines at fair prices. Knowledgeable staff will make great recommendations.

We stayed 2 nights in the SeaView Cottage. This cottage while originally built in 1900 but it is apparant that everything except the frame of the cottage has been replaced. The cottage is beautifully decorated and furnished and no expense has been spared. The cottage does have a limited view of the sea, however. The Beach House building is directly in front of it. There is a small glimpse of Lovers Point from the living room and of Monterey Bay if you stand up and look out the windows. The webpage for the inn shows a spectacular view of Lovers Point from this room, but it's from the small entryway into the cottage- not a place where you could sit comfortably. The cottage has a microwave and small refrigerator which are not listed on the website. Better views could be had from rooms such as the Cypress Room.

The service at this inn is wonderful and attentive. All rooms are equipped with wi-fi and include a hot breakfast in the breakfast room. The breakfast menu sounded good and varied, but it is a communal type breakfast where guests sit at large tables with others. We don't have a lot of interest in making small talk with other guests so we just bought some pastries at a local store and enjoyed them in our room. The inn does not all guests to take any food from the breakfast room to their guest room or cottage.

An excellent stay and I highly recommend the Seven Gables to others. It's just a beautiful property.

My husband and I decided to stay here for a quick weekend getaway over MLK weekend. It was perfect for what we were looking for - something quiet but convenient to the beach and town. The inn itself seemed initially a little much like an antique store for us (we were scared to break something!) but after the initial feeling of being an elephant in a china store, we relaxed and were able to take in the beautiful setting with tea and cookies, and wine and cheese every night. It was fun to sit and chat with many of the other guests who were similarly inclined to take a step away from the bustle of every day life. One funny thing is that since it is such a picturesque place in a very central location, there are a lot of people who will stop and snap pictures. So if you're sitting in the front porch area where there are big windows, it can be a little surprising to look up and see cameras pointing at you! But, it's small price to pay to stay in such a nice location. On another note, we stayed here during the off season, so prices were discounted, which helped us enjoy the stay even more. Oh - and breakfast was good, but not the best I've had at B&B's on the Pacific Coast, and they kept running low on coffee (which would always be replenished as soon as possible).

Great position overlooking the bay through huge room windows and with direct access to the coast path. Easy walking to the town centre and along the coastline. Breakfast was copious though somewhat heavy and sweet but the availability of lots of fresh fruit compensated for this. Complimentary wine and cheese and cookies and milk were supplied at rather curious times - mid afternoon and mid-evening so we made little use of these. Astonishingly there is no phone available in the rooms or elsewhere. Hotel is spotlessly clean and the decoration of the hotel is exquisite.

I don't usually do unqualified raves, but here goes. Wow, I love this place. I had walked past it for years when I was a child visiting relatives in the area, and always thought it looked like the prettiest, most glamorous place to stay in the entire world. When we planned a trip to the area, I immediately booked a room, although I was a bit concerned that the inn would have a hard time meeting my ridiculously high expectations. Instead, it surpassed them.

One important point - the rooms do not have a television or a telephone. You don't need either. Instead, our room (Rocky Shores) had huge windows on two sides overlooking the ocean, with comfortable seating so that you could spend lots of time looking out on the water, and it had binoculars for a better view of the seals on the rocks at the beach. We watched those seals for hours, betting against each other about how long they would stay on their rocks as the tide came in and submerged the rocks (whomever bet the longest amount of time always won - never underestimate the laziness of a seal).

The room itself was lovely - large, immaculately clean, comfortable and homey. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable and the linens (as well as the towels in the bathroom) were fantastic. The robe was so wonderful that when my current one wears out, I'm going to call the hotel and order one (they offer them for sale) - I've never done that before.

Most of all, the service was impeccable. This is not the standard family-run B&B with one or two extra staff - it is more along the nature of a professionally run small inn. That meant that there were plenty of staff, especially at the very tasty buffet breakfast, and it was always easy to find someone if you needed help. The caliber of the staff was great, too - all of them were very helpful and professional, whether with recommending good neighborhood restaurants (including a delightful family-run French bistro right up the block) or with printing out boarding passes.

Each and every time we are back in the area, we will stay here again.

If I could sum it up in one sentence it would be "attention to detail". While they did not create the unbelievable view, a great deal of thought has gone into every other aspect of this inn. The owners appear to have researched every aspect of a luxury accommodation and implemented many good ideas. The furnishings, both public spaces and in the rooms, are impeccable. True antiques, not reproductions. The service was great, the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the food was excellent. My only complaint is the cookies disappeared too early. The staff started cleaning up shortly after 9:00 pm.

I highly recommend The Seven Gables Inn!

We spent 3 nights at the Seven Gables Inn for our anniversary in the Cypress Room. We could not have been more pleased. The Inn itself is charming and in a stunning location. Almost all rooms afford a 180 degree view of the ocean and shoreline, including our room, the main house and the breakfast room. The staff are helpful and friendly, the beds very comfortable and the breakfast is amazing. The hotel also provides wine, cheese and snacks everyday from 4-6 and freshly baked cookies each evening.

The location of the hotel is also great - right on the water, a short walk to the aquarium and pier, 10 mins from Carmel and 40 minutes to Big Sur.

We would come back here again and recommend it to others with no hesitations.
