I took my wife to An Choi in Pacific Grove for her birthday, and we couldn't have been happier with our experience. Just a ten-minute walk up from glorious Asilomar Beach and next door to the Olympia Lodge where we stayed, An Choi has inventive food, excellent service and a very friendly staff. The chef's daughter was our waitress (very friendly and efficient), the chef's wife was the hostess (great suggestions about the food and the wines), and the chef, Thanh, even came out to chat and answer our questions about his food. He was trained in his hometown Saigon as well as in Belgium. We had jicama spring rolls with a mild peanut sauce and shrimp and onion tempura for appetizers with a Monterey chardonnay, and I had the canard d'orange with a nice syrah, while my wife had the Tamarind Prawns with garlic noodles for our entrees. High quality, freshness, and great taste all around. Great fusion Asian cuisine. We will be back!
