“PHEW”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2010

The Hotel first appearance was really nice! The beachfront was nice. Size of room was extremely comfortable plenty of space. The Free morning breakfast was excellent! BUT we occupied an oceanfront room next to a gate to enter and exit the complex and it was loud and not very secure at all, pretty much open for anyone to just walk in, SCARY when you think about that. The patio doors easy access to the public not a secure feeling at all. Now, as we walked to the room the smell of mold permeated through the halls and right into the room. PHEW! Inside the room just did not feel clean at all, it looked clean but the smell made the room feel really uncomfortable. Ice machine was out of commission, and it was very hard to find your way around the hotel! Horrid colors on the walls need to redecorate for the price! This could be a fabulous place if they improve security to the complex, get rid of the smell, and perfect the craftsmanship inside the rooms. Staff wasn't bad, but cleanliness is in order. I would stay again only if I had too however not in the oceanfront room, not worth the money at all.

This was a short drive from Los Angeles but felt like we were in in a tropical paradise. The view is spectacular. The room was very nice and quiet and we really enjoyed the deck overlooking the pool and we also had a view of the beach. We ate dinner one evening at the restaurant and the food was terrific. We enjoyed mingling with people in the early evening for wine and snacks. We each had a full massage and that was the icing on the cake. The waterfalls and tropical plants really enhance the entire experience. Very romantic for a close weekend getaway. Close walk to the marina and other areas of interest.

All Embassy Suites are great when traveling with kids because of the two rooms. However, this Embassy Suites was even better than the others I have visited. Not only was the hotel right on the beach, but the hotel also had kids' activities, a large pool, hot tubs, and was next door to a nice park.

The hotel also had its typical breakfast and evening reception, which was nice.

Theonly downside is that the hotel is on the older side. While everything was clean, the rooms certainly could use an upgrade.

My husband and I stayed at the Embassy Suites Hotel Mandalay Bay from July 16-20 of this year. It was really two stays wrapped into one. We used our Hilton Points to reserve a regular suite the first two days of our stay and then paid for an ocean view room the last two days of our stay. When we arrived at the hotel it had very good curbside appeal. Lobby was very nice. Had a small store in the lobby area where you could buy snacks/souvenirs. The staff was very friendly and we did not have a long wait to get checked in for our room. We received a complementary upgrade to a pool view for our first two nights. The view was very nice. Pool area was quite lush and tropical looking. We had a small balcony that overlooked the pool area. One of the things that we really enjoyed in the suites at this hotel was that each of the suites had two full bathrooms. The suites were slightly larger than the typical rooms at other Embassy Suites hotels. Colors as reported in other reviews were a little dark but didn't really bother us. There was a daily parking charge for self parking. Parking was either in a gated lot outside of the building or underground. Corridors and elevators smelled a little musty or damp probably because of the close proximity to the ocean. Elevator areas could be cleaned up a bit but again, I think that a lot of the problem is the dampness.

The hotel is situated right on the beach and there is a walkway with benches and paths that you can take that goes right along the beach. Beautiful sunsets and very relaxing.

We did take advantage of the spa while we were there. We scheduled a couples massage. The "spa" is located in a suite that has been converted to a small spa. Basically it was a desk where you check-in, a bathroom and a room with massage tables. The massage itself was very good. Priced about what you expect to pay at any spa. Atmosphere was very nice. The only thing was that the spa was located just off the pool area and there was quite a bit of noise that filtered into the room. As long as you could tune that out, the service itself was quite good. We also ate in the hotel restaurant. Food was ok...nothing great. Service was adequate. It was convenient but a little pricey.

The second two nights we had paid for an ocean view room. This meant that we actually had to check out of our first room and move to the new room. We were going to be going out during the day to do some sightseeing and the front desk was very accommodating with moving our luggage for us from one room to the other. When we went to check with them on how to move the luggage, they informed us that because my husband is a Diamond Hilton Honors member they were giving us a complementary upgrade to the Presidential Suite with an ocean view!!! This was a very nice surprise! The Presidential Suite was wonderful. Very spacious with 2 1/2 baths, jacuzzi tub, vessel sinks. One bedroom had a king size bed that had an ocean view and it's own sitting area. The second bedroom had two queen sized beds and it's own bath. The sitting area had a pull out sofa bed. This suite could have quite easily accommodated 8 people if a family wanted to share the cost of the suite. There were two balconies....both which overlooked the ocean. Definitely a wonderful upgrade. I would say that if you are looking at choosing between an ocean view and an ocean front room, go with the ocean view. The ocean front rooms are on the first floor and you can walk right out to the beach but there are sand dunes that are so high I'm not sure you could even see the ocean from your room. The ocean view rooms are on the second and third floors and are high enough to give you a terrific view of the ocean over the sand dunes and they are cheaper than the ocean front rooms.

Pool area was very nicely themed in a tropical way. Waterfalls, lush greenery, bridges over little streams. Breakfast was housed in a separate building and was what you would expect for an embassy suites breakfast. They gave you wrist bands for the pool area and the breakfast so that they could make sure that only guests were using the facilities.

We used the hotel as a central base and made day trips to LA and Santa Barbara. It was about equidistant to both and convenient.

The price for this Embassy Suites was a little higher than most but again, being right on the beach was very relaxing and worth the extra money for us.

I've traveled a good part of the world both in five star and above hotels and then much lower ones. My last three days at his hotel were amazing. The ocean view is spectacular!!!! The food and the service of same was outstanding and value for your dollar. Laura was our server both evenings and she all but spoon fed us to enhance our enjoyment of the food. She had great suggestions and never steered us wrong. We were delighted to have her both nights. The free breakfasts were far from skimpy and could have been served in grand ballrooms around the world. Poolside service, though very crowded, was remarkable and quick and friendly. A young woman named Darian seemed to handle it without batting an eye and there were many people to watch over. The most unusual experience I had was with Theodore Greenwood, (TED) manager on duty during our stay. I live in Beverly Hills and deal with managers of our hotels almost daily. This young man is a natural. He honored our reservations promptly. I have a slight handicap which I discussed at the time I made my reservation; he was sensitive to that. He was gracious and charming at all times and remembered my name from check in to check out. I observed him for about thirty minutes while I was sitting in the lobby waiting for the family and noticed that GM's twice his age really don't get it, HE DOES. It was a lovely weekend and I would absolutely return whenever I had the chance.

Yes, it is true the rooms could use an update, but the location here made up for the shortcomings of the rooms to me. We had an oceanfront room for my husband and I and our two dogs. FYI the profile should be updated to say they allow dogs. When you are staying with dogs having the ability to just walk out onto the patio and take them for a potty break makes all the difference. We took our bikes and we were able to just keep them on the patio and walk right out to the bike path for a ride. Every person on the staff we encountered was very friendly and helpful. A couple of things I would change, the gates that allow access to the beach need to have the mechanisms changed so they do not bang so loudly, we were between two gates and heard them constantly, I would have changed rooms ordinarily but they were sold out. There is some maintenance needed on rooms, screen doors etc.

We thoroughly enjoyed this hotel and even extended our stay. The beach location is fantastic. The property is enormous and absolutely lovely. The two-hour happy hour was a welcome treat, as was the hot breakfast, also included in the rate. Rooms were large and well-appointed and staff bend over backwards to make the guests happy. The beach is vast, impeccable and glorious. If only there is something that can be done about the darned fog that at times can settle in over the ocean and sit there for a good part of the day! I would heartily recommend this hotel for a beach vacation, as its location allows for sightseeing and travelling around, as well. We loved it so much, we extended our stay for two more nights!
