“Totally worth the visit”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

We drove up from our visit to LA, spent the night in Ventura and the following day on the Channel Islands. We ate outside at Tierra Sur, enjoyed the fabulous weather and excellent service. An amazing kosher dining experience! The food was excellent, highly recommend the rib eye -- though they don't use any butter, it really is as soft as butter.

“Flaw of Tierra Sur shows superiority of Reform”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

Tierra Sur: Delicious food and great service in a clean, attractive restaurant with substantial space for private groups, so what's not to like? ...The hand washing options for customers. In fact, the whole problem of washing one's hands at Tierra Sur shows a much bigger flaw. While the restaurant itself, and the wine tasting bar and gift shop next to it are all well appointed, the bathrooms are tiny and industrially sparce, accomodating only one person at a time. They also have the type of soap dispensers where you have to press the dispenser to get the soap out. Yuck. Inside the kosher restaurant, they also have ritual hand washing stations, which are convenient but have NO SOAP. This still meets the requirements of Orthodox custom, in which the hand washing mitzvah immediately before meals is fulfilled with water in pitchers. However, as a Reform Jew enjoying the practice of this ritual, I noticed how much better Reform Jews are probably meeting what might have been the original intent of the hand washing practice when we emphasize the importace of modern hand washing before meals. If we say "...al niteelat yadayim" while using soap at Tierra Sur, the Reform and Orthodox approaches could come together nicely. However, I would still need no-touch soap dispensers in the bathrooms in order to be truly satisfied. Presumably, the employees have better handwashing options in the kitchen.

“Outstanding gourmet (and kosher) food”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

In a well-appointed dining room, our party of 10 ordered mostly prime, kosher steaks (2 of us ordered beef tips). Everyone's inner carnivore was satisfied, kosherly. Food preparation is very well performed. I started with an authentic Caesar salad (avec anchovies), followed by the beef tips (yummy) and followed by satisfying zeppoli.

Service could have been a bit more attentive, but satisfactory.

We have eaten in kosher restaurants in LA, Paris and Israel. Tierra Sur is by far the best.

“A little overated not worth the drive”
Reviewed July 25, 2014

I would recommend anyone in the area to stop by and eat here, however it was not worth the drive from Beverly Hills.

“Best Kosher Meal We've Ever Had”
Reviewed July 21, 2014

We went for lunch on a Thursday afternoon and found an amazing oasis at Tierra Sur. We took our time, had appetizers, mains and a wine tasting. No room for dessert. Service was excellent and the food was marvelous. Don't miss it. fyi, they usually have a mincha minyan at 2pm in winery.
