Owner description: Neighbor to the scenic Channel Islands, Channel Islands Harbor is a working harbor that offers fun-filled water activities for the whole family. About an hour's drive north from Los Angeles, the Harbor features several beach-lined parks and coastline for picnics and surfing, as well as nearby biking and walking paths. While at the Harbor, visit our many shops and dine at one of several restaurants with menus ranging from deli sandwiches to Brazilian cuisine. Be sure to check out the Channel Islands Maritime Museum with its ever-changing exhibitions, world-class maritime art, and ship models.

We've taken out of town relatives to the Marina for years and it's great. I'd give it an excellent except that there must be better attractions in Oxnard and I don't want to rate it the highest. You can find more expensive boats in Marina-Del-Rey and a larger live-aboard community in a larger marina (harbor) in Ventura, but like Goldilocks said, This one is just right.

My husband and I retired to this area because of its little neighborhood tucked between the harbor and the beach--a hidden un-Malibu. Channel Islands Harbor is scenic and excellent for kayaking, with reasonable rentals and very little snarling powerboat traffic.
It's a launch point for visiting parts of Channel Islands National Park by Island Packer boat, and the recently revived harborside walkway is a stroller's delight. As others have mentioned, the Sunday Farmers Market--especially the fish boat--offers great fresh food, and there are enough middling-to-better eateries to make a day of it. The new Maritime Museum will fascinate any sailing buff, young or old, with its meticulous large-scale historical boat models. Even the public bathrooms are pleasant.
Channel Islands Harbor is in no way an explicit tourism destination like Ventura Harbor, which is jammed with restaurants and stores. That's good from a peace and quiet perspective. But CI Harbor--especially the peninsula area on the harbor's east side, is pocked with rundown buildings and empty parking lot expanses. There's a sense of neglect and lost opportunity, which locals attribute to the county commission that manages the harbor.
In a way, that's a lure to visit before more typical harbor development occurs. For a quiet waterside afternoon and a raging sunset, CI Harbor is hard to beat.

Completely stumbled into this. This is a really pretty little harbor, very scenic and the ocean is 1/2 block away. Some really cute and interesting restaurants all with great marina views and reasonable prices. Great options for whale watching cruises and water sports/activities, bike rentals. I couldn't do a lot of the stuff here - need to plan a couple more visits to do it all.

This is the harbor you use to go to the Channel Islands National Park. There are shops to see, and just looking at the boats, kayaks, etc. was rather enjoyable. Get there a little early so you can enjoy the scenery before your trip to the Islands.

lots of boats and nice houses on inlets, and a couple of shopping/eating areas nearby. Good place to wander.
