“Beautiful place to spend the day!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012

We went on a rainy, misty day and it was magical. The trees were amazing and the trail is a nice and easy loop. I was shocked to see the sign warning of bears and mountain lions on this trail and carried a stick while walking through! My fear of being attacked (the sign explains what to do if it happens) dampened my enthusiasm but the Grove itself deserves five stars!

“Light filtering through the redwoods!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2012

We went in the morning when the fog was just starting to burn off. That's the best time to go as you get the mysterious fog and the light filtering through the trees -- but not too cold. The trail is interesting and there are several benches where you can lie down and just look up.

I gave it 4 stars because there's nothing particularly different than other groves of redwoods all around (unlike the Tall Trees Grove where the 2nd highest redwood is located). It's just very peaceful and very pretty. Worth a stop if you're around Orick, but if I was up by Crescent City, I would see the groves near there rather than drive to Orick just to see this grove.

“Even if it's raining.. Just do it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2012

It was raining and chilly. We started on the hike and am so glad we finished!
We saw some massive redwoods. Even larger than the ones we saw exploring Redwood State park. Not a lot of people, maybe due to the rain, and it was a Saturday. Beautiful drive up to the hike as well.

“Breathtaking morning walk!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

This turned out to be my favorite part of the entire trip! Go in the morning, before 11:00 am, and experience this walk while the fog is still around. It creates a beautiful atmosphere that will leave you speechless. It's a short 1 mile loop, but it took us at least an hour from all of the photos we took. There's a lot of dew/condensation in the morning, and you will want a light jacket. As you start the walk there is a box w/ a trail guide that will direct you to about 13 points of interest. It's very informative, but you'll be fine without it as well. Don't forget your camera of course and be sure to take your time wandering around this grove.

A perfect stop to take a quick stroll through beautiful Redwood trees. A larger parking lot and bathrooms available.
