“No to smoking room”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

Smoking room was not good condition. Lights fuses broke, doors wall was messed up; dinky.

"Renovated room" was ok for price we paid.

Parking structure horrible; very tight spaces.

Breakfast was not good. Everything was package type; no "real" breakfast.

The rooms are very spacious and clean and staff is very responsive and friendly. The location next to the freeway is a blessing and a curse, as it is convenient but there is a lot of traffic. The room itself was fairly quiet at night and we had a comfortable bed. The TV didn't work great, but we weren't in Southern California to watch TV. I'm sure if I had let the front desk know, they would have fixed it. The breakfast was definitely adequate and while the breakfast area is small, it is bright and clean.

On the negative side, the pool was too cold for us to use - we just dipped our toes in and decided not to take the plunge. The hotel is the type with doors all facing out - no interior halls here - so it doesn't feel very secure. Our last night there was a nightmare - another guest was screaming obscenities at his wife for a long time outside of their room, and it seems the staff did nothing to curtail this behavior at nearly 2 am. I could hear every word clearly, and it went on for about 15 minutes. It would have been a pleasant stay overall if staff did more to control the riffraff.

Room Tip: Rooms closer to the front desk have easier parking. There is no elevator to the second floor, so be...

Building looked old and scary when we first arrived at night. One of my staff on this trip complained about foul odour in her room. The check in was rather painful, as we needed to pay for all three rooms in advance. However, the staff were friendly, and all of us agreed that the beds were comfortable, and we were able to get good sleep.

Parking was a challenge left for the guests to figure out.
Others were noisy Saturday evening, and it seemed management was oblivious.
The nearby earthquake left little confidence in survivability if one slightly bigger happened moments later.
That being said...
My Jacuzzi room was the bomb! Large, clean, adequately stocked, and relatively inexpensive. The carpet could use some extreme help or replacement. Luckily, I always travel with a heavy duty 6 foot extension cord or the floor lamp near the chair and ottoman would not have worked as it was not plugged in, and there was no wall outlet nearby. Curious. Oh well.
I kind of liked the quirky floor plan layout of the room; where the real bath/kitchen/closet area was opposite the hot tube area and the bedroom area was in between.
I liked the demeanor of the guy who checked me in. Like, if you could mix James Bond with Alfred (Batman's butler) you'd have the check in guy. Older, but not old. Dignified, but not arrogant. Worldly, but down to earth. You get what I'm sayin'?
Housekeeping is the best. Dependable and thorough. Of course, with old places there's only so much those hard-working ladies can do. I particularly liked the fact that no matter how late I left for the day, my room was clean when I came back.
The tv setup was great, the furnishings adequate. The bed comfortable with four pillows. There were windows that could be (and were) left open by guests as needed/wanted. And the air conditioner worked well.
The Jacuzzi was way big and deep. It took forever to fill it. But it worked rather well for such an old thing.
I will definitely be staying again, soon.

Room Tip: Always try to park when most spots are empty so that you have room to back into the parking space. I...
