“all that and an earthquake”
Reviewed June 30, 2005

the resort at squaw creek was a very relaxing experience. at check in our class of room was upgraded to a fireplace suite, which was a pleasant surprise. the "suite" was a little outdated with southwestern decor (bad bedspread) and unexceptional amenities. the forest views however, more than made up for outdated and we were thrilled to have the extra space. the common rooms were on a grand scale and very mountain lodge like. the grounds were well kept and the pools and hot tubs were wonderful especially for those who have children. there were lots of activities for those so desirous, hiking, biking, golfing swimming, a fitness center and a spa with a lot to offer. we would recommend the breakfast buffet at the resort as it was very resonable and multitudious choices and small children were free (bonus). we experienced a 5.2 earthquake at our sunday brunch but i guess it just helped the digestion.
there are also several shops on the property. there is a free shuttle to the village at squaw creek every 1/2 hour that takes about 5 minutes. we dined at plumpjack at the villages-it was excellent (service & food). we also dined at the sierra grill which was less expensive and had a wide variety of menu items, good too.

Not sure if everyone knows but they have begun renovations on the entire resort. Check out squawcreekliving to see the amazing pictures. They are remodeling the entire hotel and turning it into a condo-hotel. Every room will have 2 flat screens or lcds and the fireploaces are incredible. I can't wait to go again.

We have reservations for this July here and cannot even get a straight confirmation out of the resort for our 2 rooms that we booked in February. I have received 6 different emails with different confirmation numbers, none of which have the reservation correct. They keep only saying that we have one room. When I call they say it shows we have two rooms but for some lame reason their email system cannot/will not acknowledge this. Phone calls to the resort only result in assurances that yet MORE emails will be sent to correct the situation. How difficult can this be? If they can't get this simple reservation straight, how good can the hotel be? Think we'll book elsewhere...not worth the risk for this amount of money. Last thing we want to do is travel there all the way from Ohio and find out that don't have enough rooms for our group of TWO ROOMS!!!

We stayed at the hotel during the Easter weekend with 2 young children. I agreed with some of the reviewers that the hotel needs a facelift and I believe that it just started when we left. But we did not hear any construction noise and we were told that they would do the renovation floor by floor, wing by wing, with minimal discuption to its guests.

We also went to the show suite and was most impressed with what they are showing. Just the week before we were in Squaw, we were in the Westin Resort in Whistler and the show suite in Squaw compares extremely favourably with Westin. For all the techno guys out there. they are putting LCD flatscreen TVs in all the rooms after renovation.

We were there for 6 days and most of the people we came across assisted us with a smile. Most, except for one teenager at the ski ticket counter, were very helpful. We also went to the Easter Sunday egghunt and brunch buffet and were impressed with all the activities that they planned to keep our children happy. There was a magician, an artist, a seperate area with cartoons and party leaders to play with the kids throughout the brunch so that we adults would be able to enjoy the very generous buffet that they serve. And the food was good.

The hotel was busy when we were there, but the only time that we saw the crowd was at the pub during dinner time. Other than that, the hotel was big enough for us to not feel crowded.

All in all, our family had a terrific time and my children are already talking about going back again!

We stayed here from March 30-April 1

Based on the reviews, it was our second choice. The rates are on the high side and given the room and service other hotels at the Village will probably provide better value. But overall our stay at the hotel was ok.

I thought being detached from the Village will be inconvenient, but the Resort provided more peace and exclusivity. There was a fair amount of guests at that time; we were told that was because other ski destinations didn't have this much snow.

There's a fine dining restaurant serving Italian fusion...it was nothing great (taste vs. price). Food at the pub was ok, and the kids cooked smores over the fire just outside the pub.

The rooms are ordinary and the size was acceptable. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (ages 6 and 2) and we were comfortable.

They charge a "resort fee", so add USD 15 to the rate. This provides complimentary local calls and free shuttle to the Village (I guess it isn't free and complimentary). It is also supposed to provide free wireless internet access for the wireless adapter and the usage. But when I went down to the desk, the staff said I had to pay for renting the wireless adapter. Good thing I called before hand and the person said everything was provided at no charge. So the staff acted like he was doing me a favor by providing it for free.

Coming back? Maybe, but we'll probably try somewhere else to compare...

We saw this hotel last year when we were staying at the village at squaw. The lobby looked so beautiful, we thought we'd try it out this year. The lobby was the only beautiful part. The rooms were very modest, akin to Motel 6 with a granite bathroom counter. For $214/night (and we got a deal), I would never stay there again. Recommend The village at squaw, upscale 1 bed condos with way more ammenities/conveniences, clean and beautiful.
