2 night stay over California winter break, so fairly crowded. Rooms nice, could use updated lamps, a little dated in general. Great shower heads, comfortable beds. For skiers, very convenient equipment rental on property (no advance reservation but not needed) and frequent free shuttle to adjoining Squaw Valley and Alpine ski areas. One chair lift right o property to Squaw but it goes to blue diamond intermediate run at top (a little steep for green circle beginners). Equipment people excellent and helpful.
Areas to improve - coffee in lobby in morning usually stops when deli opens at 7:00 am, but that actually opened twice well past 7:00. Pizza restaurant great food but charges automatic 15% tip but credit card receipt (pay up front when ordering at desk) does not alert you and has a place for tip. You discover it when you get the final bill after you've added a second tip. Tiny sign on overhead menu mentions it-had manager go through hassle of deleting tip and rebilling; suggested alerting customers up front rather than sneak an additional tip in for ~ 30% tip per order. Front desk clerks are not particularly enthusiastic about providing information or helping. Ski equipment return is a hassle if you do not take the shuttle that drops you off near facility. We took car and had to walk equipment through lobby down stairs -- big hassle due to structural layout of access roads.More
