We stayed at this hotel with the family. The location is really great with scenic view of the mountains. This is place where the olymics were held in 1960. The hotel itself is a bit pricey for the quality of rooms they provide. I expect better quality at that price. Overall the hotel could be better in its appearance.
The floors were squicky and the bathroom not really up to the expectation for this price. The service was good and the food was good also.

I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and had a superior king bed room on the second floor. The complimentary breakfast in the morning is excellent with a nice variety of breakfast items and very helpful staff. The staff at the front desk was very helpful in answering questions and quickly provided me with non-feather pillows upon my arrival (allergies!). I ate lunch at the hotel and found the food to be excellent, but a little on the pricey side. There is a nice mini-fridge stocked with items, but I used it to keep a couple of bottles of water cold.

A quick run down -
Pros - quiet space, really nice quality of bedding/towels
Cons - no A/C, but windows that open with fans; no dresser drawers, but baskets for your clothes; as others have mentioned, in my room I had concrete floors, with area rugs and lots of metal decor. It's not as plushy or warm as some other high end hotels are.

One other thing that might be good to know - this is a very dog-friendly hotel! Treats and water for the dogs are available at the front desk.

While this is not the most luxurious hotel I have stayed at, it was clean and close to where I needed to be, plus the staff was very good!

Good place to just relax in the summer. Quiet in spite of the kids and dogs allowed. A bit pricey, but hey! this is a resort area. Food's top notch, but also pricey. Included breakfast is great, especially their granola.
Squaw Valley Village is a few steps away, with pubs, coffee shops, etc.
Rooms on the 2nd floor facing pool appears to be the most relaxing and generally quietest.
This was built in 1959 for the Olympics - no elevator, air conditioning (open the window and enjoy the cool mountain air), or other amenities included in the concrete cell blocks around.

Two hot tubs and an ample sized kids pool.

There is nothing luxurious about this place. The rooms are really terrible - from the cheap carpet & furniture to the white walls & weird metal decor that just doesn't work. Bathrooms were tiny, no counter space and cheap ugly tile. I can see this being ok if you're just in town to ski and need a bed for the night. But if you are used to staying in upsacle accomodations, you should look elsewhere. The pool & hottubs could also use a facelift. I did see a suite which had much better colors & decor. Maybe some rooms have been updated - if so, I would defintely ask for one.

This resort was nestled in the beautiful resort town of Squaw Valley. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was nice and spacious and the grounds were very relaxing. While no snow, we still ventured up to the sight of the 1960 Olympic on High Mtn where the views were amazing! Our stay was quick, but very enjoyable. Breakfast was amazing! The homemade granola bars are a must!

Centrally located, while far enough away from the noise of the village and snow cats. We usually stay at the lodge, but were drawn by discounted rates and fuller service of an Inn. Ski check was so convenient. Breakfast was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Would stay here again!

Let me prepend that I’ve been to many skiing places where I stayed at good and very good hotels so I know what I’m talking about.
The conclusion of my experience with Plump Jack is that this is the worst place I’ve ever been to in a skiing area.
The room is spacey, that’s o.k.. The furniture is mostly very cheap and not a joy to the eyes. It was the first time that I had to stay in a hotel room that doesn’t offer a closet!!!
The construction of the building is so poor that one must hear everything coming from the streets, the floor, the neighbours and from upstairs (even louder than from all the other areas mentioned).
The stuff at the lobby is mixed: two girls are acceptably friendly and helpful, the boys are rude and absolutely unwilling – their behaviour is an unbounded cheek!
In what is called restaurant (by the way: the sofas are incredibly dirty!) there’s a young man behind the bar who is obviously trying to at least achieve the bad behaviour of the lobby guys.
Some girls I had to deal with are mediocre and only one girl was friendly, charming and very helpful.
So all things considered this is a very cheap place at an inacceptable price!

I feel angry and ripped off and I can give the only advice to everybody: Stay away!

Dear Sir,

We strive to provide a relaxing, inviting, engaging atmosphere for our guests. Our staff loves the mountain community we live and work in and share our enthusiasm with guests day in and day out. If this failed to translate during your stay, I apologize.

Noise can be a factor at our hotel. The building was constructed in the 1950's to house the delegates of the 1960 Winter Olympics. While a new, modern structure would be great, we'd sacrifice some of the rustic charm and history our current structure holds. Additionally, the close proximity to the mountain and bustling village means inherent operational noise that is out our of control, including snow plows, grooming machines, avalanche bombs and pedestrian traffic.

In the event you return to Squaw Valley, we'd relish the opportunity to welcome you back and change your opinion of our Inn.

Sincerely,

Steve Lamb and the PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn Team
