I've been to Tahoe a few times, but after visiting Squaw Valley on my last visit, I think this will be my "it" place to ski. The resort is gorgeous, it is so convenient, to stay right on the mountain, with many restaurants to choose from, wonderful fire pits at night, great accommodations, and even entertainment in the evenings sometimes. I have rented condos and stayed in hotels, but no more, Squaw Valley Village is where I will be skiing and staying from now on!

We rode the cable car to the top of the mountain and hoped to do some hiking from high camp. We got to the top and the views were beautiful. As we started hiking, we noticed the clouds becoming darker and more ominous. We decided to go back to the restaurant for lunch and were told that the conditions were becoming dangerous and they advised everyone to head back down in the cable cars. There was no time for lunch or visiting the museum. They really did work to get the cars back and forth as quickly as possible, but we still had a long wait in line. I wish they would give rain checks.

We were in the area staying at the Squaw Creek Resort. We took the tram to high camp and it had epic views and it was an amazingly clear sky which allowed us to get some great views of the area and Lake Tahoe in the distance.

this is the site f the 1960 Winter Olympic games. The village is pretty much intact and resort is built around it
A cable car will take you all the way to the top of the peak where there are numerous things to do, incl. various activities\games and walking\king trails.
Shopping and eateries abound in the village & resort
plenty of parking space

We rode the Squaw Valley tram just this month. The experience was wonderful. The scenery going up on the ride and after arriving at the top was just incredibly beautiful. The tram reaches a level of approx. 8,200 ft after about a 2,000 ft. climb from the valley floor. The tram ride itself was smooth and there was room for about twenty people without being crowded at all. There were many places to visit at the top including a museum where there were exhibits showing memorabilia from the 1960 Winter Olympic games. We highly recommend taking the tram ride even if there is a problem with a fear of heights. The Squaw Valley village is a great area also. Since we are above the age of sixty five the price for riding the tram was just $8.00 each.
