The ski area looks so cool and extensive. The problem has to do with weather, not the resort. Just not enough snow to make it worth our day. Even if not skiing, well worth a walk around just to see an Olympic Ski Village.

January 2014: The Jet Stream is parked over the East Coast of the U.S. and little snow is coming to California's Lake Tahoe area. In the face of this, Squaw Valley has kept several runs open with their artificial snow-making equipment. You can actually ski a couple of miles downhill and the coverage is good with few icy spots.
At the moment, there is not much here to challenge very expert skiers, but for families and groups with mixed abilities, you are probably not going to do any better in the area.

With the lack of snow on the mountain, squaw did a decent job of grooming and making fake snow to fill it up. Only about 30% of the mountain was open, but I still had an enjoyable time. The staff was super friendly and very knowledgeable about what runs to go on first and where to grab a drink to watch the game. They took their time to make sure you all your questions were answered.

If you are looking for an awesome resort to find something other than skiing for the kids then you should come here!!! The stores and service were awesome but we also found a great Pizza place Fireside Pizza Company that offered options for kids and gluten free pizza. We then found the awesome area the kids could do snow tubing and snow mobile riding. The kids had sooo much fun snow tubing for an hour and 25.00!!! My kids are 4 and 5.. they loved it!!!!!

My husband is an advanced skier, my son and myself are beginner/intermediate and we still enjoyed the limited open runs. Looking forward to more snow to take full advantage of what the mountain has to offer.
