“Pure Relaxation!”
Reviewed February 6, 2010

This was our second stay at the Bear Valley Inn and we were, once again, THRILLED with our accommodations! The location of the Inn is just a block away from the Olema Inn & Olema Farmhouse, just minutes from the Bear Valley Visitor's Center and a short drive to downtown Pt. Reyes Station. It's a nice sized property with a down home country feel!

We stayed in the private Hummingbird Cottage for 4 nights and really enjoyed the serene, peaceful environment. This spacious cottage had everything we needed to make ourselves at home! The comfortable living room was a perfect reading area and housed board games, books & movies. Free WI-FI was also available. The beds felt secluded and were ultra cozy. My husband and I were so taken with the bedding that we purchased the same sheets for all our beds at home ... the Coyuchi Cotton Outlet is located in Pt. Reyes Station! The bunkbed was a huge hit with our 5 yr old, who would've been thrilled to stay in the cottage our entire visit. The bathroom was a bit small and had just a corner shower but there was a roomy sink area outside it which helped with space. A large farm table sat in the middle of the cottage and was a perfect meeting area for meals and day planning. Lastly, the small kitchen was a HUGE convenience! It had a small refrigerator, two burner stove, coffee pot, microwave, toaster and all the pots, pans, cups, plates, knives, utensils etc... needed to use it. There was a well stocked supply of organic teas, coffee, creamer, milk, fruit, homemade granola and homemade yogurt.

Amanda & Ken were very friendly and helped me schedule a surprise on-site massage for my hubby. They maintained the perfect balance of being available for our questions yet casually stayed out of sight. We appreciated the space & respect. And we REALLY appreciated the delicious breakfasts that Amanda made! Yummy egg dishes made from eggs laid by the on site chickens, scrumptious muffins and scones, to die for bacon and tasty jams & chutneys. Not to mention fresh squeezed juices! Wow!

We hiked around the area, enjoyed our time on the beach, shopped in Pt. Reyes Station and dined at the wonderful local restaurants ... but our favorite part of our trip was spending time at that cottage. We loved relaxing, napping, reading, playing board games and watching movies together! It was a perfect family get away!

The Hummingbird Cottage is a great spot for small families, for girlfriends looking for a quiet getaway or for couples wanting privacy and a little bit of extra space. We will definitely be visiting the Bear Valley Inn again!

The Bear Valley Inn was a great place to stay. The house and rooms are really cute and comfortable. Amanda was really friendly-- a hilarious down-to-earth woman. Breakfast was delicious, which included eggs straight from the chickens in their backyard, homemade yogurt, plus delicious bread, fruit and potatoes. I appreciated the eco-consciousness of the accommodations and all the great hiking reference books and maps that they had in the house. While B&B's are normally out of our budget, we splurged and went for it with Bear Valley Inn, and we were very glad we did.

We wanted to explore Point Reyes and picked the perfect place to stay. The Inn is charming, comfortable, exquisitely clean, everything in perfect condition. Amanda is a font of information, answered all our questions and gave excellent suggestions for the best use of our time. Breakfast was great!

My husband and I stayed in the Redwood Room. We had a delightful stay and very much enjoyed the hospitality of Amanda and Rick. The bed was extremely comfy and the room was simple, uncomplicated and cozy. Amanda also had organic bathroom supplies, which was really nice and all kinds of organic teas to have at your leisure. It definitely made us feel at home. Breakfast was good and I enjoyed the variety of foods that was fresh made every morning. The garden was in bloom and was lovely. The Bear Valley Inn also is in a good location (central to Point Reyes area)and you can walk to a couple restaurants and a good deli. I would definitely recommend it. My only comment (or suggestion for improvement) would be that I would like 2 pieces of bacon, every time that we were provided bacon for breakfast.

We stayed for two nights in the Hummingbird Cottage as our base for exploring the Point Reyes area, and we'd love to come bnck for another week! It was a rustic cottage but plenty big for our family of four, and our kids (aged 4.5 and 9 at the time of the trip) loved every minute of our stay. The bunk beds especially were a huge hit. The cottage didn't offer much in the way of privacy but that was okay as it was cozy and romantic in its own way, and very clean. The only thing I missed was having a separate sink in the kitchen area for washing up, as the lone sink was rather small for that purpose. The grounds offered interesting points of exploration for the kids (garden, chickens, bee keeping, dogs) and the proximity to area attractions was ideal. Loved it!

This was our third trip to the Bear Valley Inn (BVI) in the past two years, and our second Thanksgiving stay with them. The Innkeeper Amanda and her husband Ken have always made me and my husband feel so welcome, we feel like we're staying with friends. The rooms at the BVI are quaint and comfortable and the living room is a cozy place to work on a puzzle or read a book.

Amanda is a wonderful cook and prepares tasty and wholesome organic breakfasts. I disagree with the previous review which claimed that the breakfast provided is skimpy. Each morning we started with a fruit salad followed by an egg from Amanda's hens, local bacon or sausage and ample fresh baked goods. Amanda graciously accommodated several guests' food restrictions by preparing muffins without wheat and milk-free alternatives for the lactose intolerant. My husband is a very hearty eater and he never left the table hungry.

Amanda and Ken know their area well. They are a particularly good resource if you plan to explore Marin's beautiful countryside by bicycle or by foot. They can provide you with recommendations about local biking and hiking routes. Both are avid cyclists, and if you have a technical issue with your bike, Ken is ready and willing to assist.

We look forward to our next trip to the BVI!

My mother and I had the pleasure of staying at the Bear Valley Inn recently. What a charming, idyllic place. Our hosts were very helpful and because they are well connected in their community, they know all of the great day trips and travel spots. So we got great hints on where to head out for the day -- not to mention the fabulous picture books in the main room with wonderful fireplace. The breakfast was wonderful -- fabulous coffee, nutritious fruit and lovely muffins....farm fresh eggs from the chickens out back. All of this and a commitment to sustainability in a beautiful setting. It was a memorable trip -- we will definitely be back! There is no better place for a relaxing stay in a truly beautiful place.
