“Fun place for a quick "cool off"”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

We always take our visiting family here. It's a rare opportunity to visit the inside of a lava tube. bring sturdy shoes and a flashlight, perhaps even a light jacket. It's DARK, the ground is sharp due to the lava flow and sometimes there is water standing in spots. But this is definately a FUN place to go.

“Bring Your Flashlight!”
Reviewed March 6, 2012

Subway Cave in Hat Creek is a nice diversion for kids when camping nearby. Make sure everyone has their own flashlight so the stubbed toes is minimal, and enjoy! My sister used to tell me that Cannibus Man lived here and it scared the heck out of me. Made me behave though- imagine how I felt when I got older and realized what that meant!

It's very cool, and I mean cool. Wear a coat and take a light, it is very, very black inside.

“Nice place to take a break and entertain the Family for FREE! Camping Nearby.”
Reviewed January 22, 2012

Close asphalt parking. Waterless toilets and drinking fountain. Short through cave Walk and "easy"; with stair access. No disabled access. Floor of cave is rocky and damp. Total Blackout in cave; Flashlights a MUST! No pets allowed; however, "rule breaking" seemed rampant. Children like it. Cave Campground is across Street $16/night. $8 with Access Pass. Very good stream fishing at Hat Creek; through campground. Use nightcrawlers.
