My wife and I stayed here one night in July 2013 as we drove down to L.A. We had never been to Ojai, and the Ojai Retreat was a comfortable, affordable, relaxing and beautiful place to stay. We can't compare it to other Ojai places, but we enjoyed it incredibly. There are only a handful of rooms, so we felt well taken care of. A great breakfast, with enjoyable views of the mountains from the garden. A short drive to "downtown" Ojai, so those who want to walk out their door and see the town will want to stay somewhere else. But the bed was comfortable, the room was quiet, and the breakfast was filling. The grounds are beautiful, with amazing views. If we go back to Ojai, we will definitely stay here again.

I was looking for a special to stay with my 91 year old mother in law and 87 year old mom, and this is truly THE place to go. Up easy hill, this retreat offers a special treat of adorable and comfy accommodations (we stayed in the Oak and Eucalyptus Rooms, the former of which has an amazing view of the valley). The rooms (which are in a little cottage) have a fridge and table and 2 chairs and NO television...adding to the retreat feeling. Breakfast was great, both in taste and ambience...overlooking the valley.

This place is very special...at a great price!

Room Tip: Ask for one with a view of the valley!

Tired of noisy motels/hotels and want an amzingly quit, relaxing, secluded place to stay we highly recommend this property. Stayed in the Ojai Suite and it rates in the top five of all our destination places we have stayed, the continetal style breakfast is to die for, staff was incredable...period.

Room Tip: Spent five days in the Ojai Suite, like having your our own private bungalow and with an incredable...

Booked our stay at the last minute. We were very hesitant but once we got there we loved the place. Very quiet... It was nice to be away from the city. The "no tv" in the room was weird at the beginning but it was a blessing. Oh... And the continental breakfast was very good. 100 times better that what we expected. Scrambled eggs, toast, fresh fruit, coffee, OJ and lots more. For us the only issue was the weather. It was about 105 degrees but can't blame the hotel for that. Overall an amazing experience. Can't wait to go back. Hopefully we will have better luck with the weather.

We stayed at Ojai Retreat for 2 nights and enjoyed out stay thoroughly.

It was up in the mountain looking over Ojai valley. Beautiful and very quiet location. It ls for people who wants to get away from daily grind of city life.

We stayed at Ojai suite and it was pretty pricey due to high season. So my opinion is biased. My expectation was pretty high since the room was close to $300 a night.

First of all, the "suite" is right next to the office in the SAME building. When we checked in, the front lady said "your room is right next door", I didn't understand what she meant. But it was figuratively right next door! I walked out of the office and walked 7ft, there it was my "suite".

I was bit disappointed because I was expecting something more luxurious. And the room looked far better in pictures from their website. The suite looked basically like your grandma's spare room and patio-turned-into-a-guest-room. It was very clean and well kept, but cheap unmatched furniture put me off.

Albeit all the complaints above, I loved the location, the view from my suite was unbeatable. We live in a tiny apartment in Brooklyn with windows looking over industrial site. The view from the Ojai suite was truly a treat for us. Falling asleep watching the sky changing its color and waking up to the view of mountain with bird chirping. It was just beautiful.

Here's what I learned and for people who has no clue what it's like there.

-Staying in Ojai is NOT cheap. Ojai retreat is relatively expensive for what it is but don't think it's a resort.

-It's a RETREAT. A lot of artists and creative types stay there to rejuvenate. This one "artist" kept talking to us how she is able to see "spirts" of dead and unborn etc. It gave me a creep even though we see so many crazy people in New York.

It's a hotel with minimum amenity. No Pool, No TV, No Jacuzzi etc. If you are looking to find bells and whistles, this is not a hotel for you.

-Yes, Breakfast is good. But get there early otherwise good stuff will run out, like fresh fruits.

-good for older people or people with old soul. I am in my late 30's and was one of the youngest people there.

Room Tip: If you have some extra to throw in, yes, do stay in a room with huge widows like Suite or Skyroom...

Stayed here for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. The room was lovely, the staff were so helpful, and the free breakfasts were fab. Ojai is a short drive away but the hotel is really peaceful and serene. Highly recommended for those wishing a more spiritual get away.
