Description: We at Azu believe the best dishes are made from fresh ingredients. We look to the local farmers that we know grow quality organic and natural produce, that help give our menu that special California twist. Our bar menu is filled with craft cocktails with juices squeezed right from Ojai's citrus orchards where are bartenders hand pick fruit to help make the perfect mimosa, martini's, and Richies famous Bloody Mary. We love supporting our California wineries, breweries, farmers, and hormone free companies. We buy locally and organically whenever possible and strive to add a California twist to our Spanish inspired menu. For over 10 years, Owner and Chef Laurel Moore has taken this inspiration and has created a ambiance and menu that has the feel of a mediterranean retreat, authentic destination, and local Ojai escape. We strive to provide the tastiest and freshest ingredients while preparing our dishes with the pure natural flavor of farm driven produce and flavors. We offer organic, vegan, Paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, and other dietary restricted options as well as healthy nutritional options for kids. Our dishes are designed to meet the needs of Everyone who walks through our historic doors. We cater to couples nights out, large parties and receptions, wedding events, Happy Hour connoisseurs, anniversary celebrations, outdoor dining, Tapas tastings, wine tastings, beer samplings, corporate events, and have a wide variety of Tapas and Celebration menus to choose from. Whether you are looking to escape from the hustle bustle of the city or are an Ojai local in need of a special night out. Our destination style atmosphere and farm fresh California Tapas, fresh juice cocktails, and local wine and beer, is the perfect place to find sanctuary within a culinary inspired establishment.

“Great little restaurant in a small resort town”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

We were in Ojai, California, a small resort town, for a 4th of July weekend getaway. Azu is one of the limited options for good food so we decided to try it. Eureka!

We were there for lunch. It was a hot day. We had our family dog with us so we had to sit at one of the sidewalk tables. (Several Ojai restaurants are dog-friendly, which is important to many people.) The July temperature led us to focus on a variety of their tapas selections. It was a good decision for a hot day.

The tapas dishes at Azu definitely have a California touch. That is, they are tasty and light. The Gambas--sauteed prawns in olive oil, white wine and garlic--were delicious. So were the Seared Sea Scallops. The Chile Relleno was stuffed with spinach, pine nuts, currants, a Mexican cheese and a spicy tomato sauce and it was one of the best we've ever had. Even the lowly hummus & pita and the house salad were light and delicious. The wines we chose went well with the food on the table.

Azu puts its effort into the food instead of decor, and the customers benefit. We will definitely be repeat customers.

“Good for Ojai which is Not Saying Much”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Ojai is not known for its cuisine, but rather it's quiet, artistic, countryside serenity. I suppose Azu was the best we could do there; it has a lively vibe and the food was decent. I really liked our sweet waitress too. Good quality meat and fish, but with slightly odd flavor combinations. Better than Suzanne's down the street.

“Never got to eat here”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

I never thought I'd write a review of a restaurant that didn't serve me. I thought twice about even mentioning this place as my review might be viewed as vindictive but you can judge for yourself.

We made a reservation several weeks in advance of our trip to Ojai. We had eaten at Azu on a prior trip with good results. On Thursday afternoon (our reservation was for Saturday evening) I received an e-mail from Open Table stating that the restaurant had canceled our reservation. No other explanation was offered.

I callled Azu for an explanation. They simply stated that someone had booked the entire restaurant for a private party so they cancelled the reservation. No apology was offered, nor was there any offer or attempt to book an alternative for us or to offer us any incentive to return at a future date. This is the first time in many decades of dining out that I had received such cold and thoughtless treatment.

When we checked into the hotel and the clerk asked where we were dining, we mentioned the experience without naming the restaurant. The clerk asked us if this happened at Azu and she did not seem at all surprised when we said "yes".

You can make of this what you will.

“Perfect Meal to start the weekend”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Friends had recommended some more upscale eateries in town, but we were so glad to find this terrific spot with a great vibe, creative and tasty drinks and light and delicious small plates. The white sangria overflowing with summer fruit and mint, as well as my husband's grapefruit margarita hit the spot. As vegetarians, it is not always easy to go out for Tapas, but they were very accommodating and the menu was varied and creative. The salads were especially fresh and flavorful - our favorite was the arugula, fig, and feta salad with toasted almonds. I'd never seen vegan paella on a menu - was nice to have that option (though it was not the best of our dishes) Perfect start to a date night/weekend.

“Sophisticated Mediterranean”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

This restaurant on Main Street looks small when you enter, but there are other rooms behind the main room where the bar is. We were in the middle room. The décor is elegant. Service was impeccable. The menu is Mediterranean, and we were very pleased with the dishes we ordered.
