Description: We at Azu believe the best dishes are made from fresh ingredients. We look to the local farmers that we know grow quality organic and natural produce, that help give our menu that special California twist. Our bar menu is filled with craft cocktails with juices squeezed right from Ojai's citrus orchards where are bartenders hand pick fruit to help make the perfect mimosa, martini's, and Richies famous Bloody Mary. We love supporting our California wineries, breweries, farmers, and hormone free companies. We buy locally and organically whenever possible and strive to add a California twist to our Spanish inspired menu. For over 10 years, Owner and Chef Laurel Moore has taken this inspiration and has created a ambiance and menu that has the feel of a mediterranean retreat, authentic destination, and local Ojai escape. We strive to provide the tastiest and freshest ingredients while preparing our dishes with the pure natural flavor of farm driven produce and flavors. We offer organic, vegan, Paleo, gluten free, vegetarian, and other dietary restricted options as well as healthy nutritional options for kids. Our dishes are designed to meet the needs of Everyone who walks through our historic doors. We cater to couples nights out, large parties and receptions, wedding events, Happy Hour connoisseurs, anniversary celebrations, outdoor dining, Tapas tastings, wine tastings, beer samplings, corporate events, and have a wide variety of Tapas and Celebration menus to choose from. Whether you are looking to escape from the hustle bustle of the city or are an Ojai local in need of a special night out. Our destination style atmosphere and farm fresh California Tapas, fresh juice cocktails, and local wine and beer, is the perfect place to find sanctuary within a culinary inspired establishment.

“Great Food, Great Service”
Reviewed June 8, 2011

We have eaten at Azu's a couple of times and have been pleasantly surprised my the eclectic menu, the ambiance and the good service. There is a Tapa's menu as well as a regular menu including specials. The restaurant is larger than it appears from the front door and we were delighted to find there is a nice quiet room, a banquet room and an outdoor patio (not open yet but hopefully in the summer) besides the fun bar area and sidewalk seating. They have 1/2 price bottles on wine on Tuesday nights as well as happy hours (call for details). Enjoy!

“Do your wallet a favor and pass this place by”
Reviewed June 4, 2011

Azu is tres expensive and not worth the price. The food is okay but the value for what you get is terrible.

Examples - charging $2.50 for a diet coke . . . for each refill!
Tapas entrees priced at $17 . . . raping the customer.

The total bill came to $113 with drinks. The was by far the worst dining experience on our visit to California, where we did eat in some exceptional restaurants.

If you are an upscale yuppy with a large bankroll and love the "Ojai experience" and want to be seen dining on the main drag, then you can disregard my advice.

“I'm Sorry, But No...”
Reviewed May 31, 2011

I have been three times. Three is fair, yes? Well, this is seriously amateurish, bland, less-than-inspired food. Of the "Oh, my...we cook so much better than this at home" variety. It's a nice wine bar. It's a pleasant enough place. But hire a real chef, won't you? Someone who actually knows how to create a tasteful dish. Who doesn't put a few shrimp, some sliced, store-bought sausage, and some overcooked rice in a microwave, and then call it paella.

“Good Local Spot - Good Food & Prices”
Reviewed April 25, 2011

Good local spot and fair prices. We had dinner (pretty good) and brunch (really good) during our weekend there in April '11.

Local farms produce much of what you eat and the services was very good by LA standards and the prices were very good by LA standards.

The brunch had good bloody's for me and a large mimosa for my wife. The basket of donuts was great and the rest was standard brunch fair. Nice view if you sit up front, we didn't check out the patio because it was raining but everyone says it is very nice.

I would reserve on Open Table for a weekend but otherwise you can probably get away with a walk in.

“"Azu"uringly good!”
Reviewed February 20, 2011

Decided at the last minute to change our reservation at the Ranch House and try out Azu, Tapas style! Having wasted too much money on restaurants like the RH - decided to forego the stodgy experience. Fortunately for us they could take us, on a holiday weekend albeit a little late - but worked perfectly for us. We ordered the beet salad (exceptionally good) with just the right tanginess. Moved on to the prawns that were just okay - nothing out of the ordinary (but still delicious, if you like garlic and butter). The honey baked brie was divine and made you keep going back for more. Chile Relleno was perfect. You could actually taste the chile as it was not drowned in batter. Don't pass on the bacon wrapped figs - again a divine tapas. Felt a little like we were in Spain again without the Jamon hanging from the ceiling. Looking for something fresh and new Azu is a great little find in a quaint little town.
