Stay Here!

After fleeing the Guesthouse Inn with its multitude of "quickie day-visits" from military personnel, dirty walls, grimy floors and a thong underwear / g-string still in the bed, I decided I needed a different hotel in Oceanside. I read the positive reviews of nearby hotels via this website and moved to the Holiday Inn Express -- about 1.5 miles away.

For $110 a night, I enjoyed: two queen-sized beds in a room more than twice the size of Guesthouse Inn's "bed-with-dirty-walls-around-it"; cable for the computer; immaculate halls, rooms and lobby; a clean (but small) area to wash and dry my clothes; beverage machines that actually work (GH's did not); and courteous service.

The service: the desk clerk was always polite with directions to the closest grocery store, car wash, cinema or ATM. I asked for a room where I could easily unload my luggage and was quickly provided with one. (Ulterior motive: after having spent the night at the GH, I wanted a room where I could easily watch my vehicle.)

The area: Von's grocery store, a Macy's, theatre, Target, banks, and numerous other well known shops are about 3 blocks away. The hotel has some type of small country club with manicured grass to the rear - providing a welcome buffer zone.

Drawbacks: This Holiday Inn Express is right on the highway 78 express way and the traffic noise at high commute times, although it did not disturb me, might disturb some: Maybe a room in the back would help solve this problem.

All in all, if you want to stay in the Oceanside area for this price, before staying at the hotels down by the beach area right off I-5, do yourself a favor and take highway 78 up the hill about 1/3 a mile to El Camino Real exit. At the stop light take a left, crossing over 78. Take a right at the access road: Vista Way. The hotel is located at the first stop-light on your left.

This hotel was a great place to stay for the price.....huge room......so clean.....great breakfast!! (Love those cinnamon rolls!) There is a nice pool and jacuzzi outside, and even tho it was a chilly Feb. when we stayed, the water was nice and warm. There was even a balcony off our room!! The hotel is in a commercial area with lots of restaurants, stores, etc, and only ten minutes from the beach. The only drawback was the noise from the highway............we're from a rural area and just not used to it. But next time I would request a room in the back and maybe that would be better. It was just a relief that the place is well-maintained!

Stayed for 3 nights. Relied on the February comment above and agreed with most of the comments. The biggest exception was that our non-smoking room smelled as if it were previously a smoker's room. We had to run out and buy candles and incense. Did not ask for a different room because we checked in late and the location of the room was excellent in regard to access to the pool, laundry room, parking lot, and breakfast room. Everything else was better than expected. We had a suite with two very large televisions, a great refrigerator and we did not have any problems with our microwave. We loved the close location to stores and restaurants and the breakfast spread was greatly appreciated for getting us on our way quickly.

We stayed at this hotel the last weekend of Feb. Hate trying new things and hotels without a review, I choose a Holiday Inn because they're usually safe and average but I was pleasently surprised at this hotel. It was easy to find, right off the 76 and not far from the 5 freeways. The room was somewhat larger than most with all new furnishings . Even the carpet was nice. The bathroom had all new tub and fixtures. The only problem I saw was the hot and cold water was reversed in the sink. And the microwave took quite a while to pop even popcorn. The TV was oversized for a hotel-and there was 100's of tv channels. There was a balcony that was semi-private with plastic chairs and you could see the golf course. Our room was upfront- and there was minimal noise from the freeway-nothing I couldn't live with. The breakfast selection was very nice-fresh fruit, bagels, hard boiled eggs, cereals. Local newspaper in the AM. They also have really good coffee in the rooms with to-go cups. There was a Starbucks right up the street, and across the street there were many resturants, Mimi's, Outback, Applebee's, McDonald's,Denny's to name a few. Along with a Target and Walmart, a whole mall was across the freeway hump with Sears, JCPenny's,Robinson's May. The beach was a straight drive 1 mile away. Will stay again.
