We returned to dine here for lunch on our most recent visit to Oceanside, after a great day of shark fishing. We visited this restaurant back in the spring on our first shark fishing trip, and the food has been spot on both times.
This time we had the super nachos, and the ceviche as appetizers. The ceviche was fresh, with a very prominent citrus flavor that complemented the dish very well. The nachos were generously piled with cheese, chicken, and beans, with enough chips to feed an army. A great value, to say the least.
The star of the meal was the fish tacos!! The last time we came here, we ignored the advice of our captain, who told us to have fish tacos. We had very good plate lunches with the catch of the day, but this time, we listened, and it was a good thing we did. These were definitely some of the best fish tacos we have ever eaten!! Two were sufficient, after having split the appetizers. Without appetizers, I would surmise that three would make a very satisfying meal. The fish was crispy, fresh, and flavorful, without any "fishy" taste at all.
The negative to our visit was the service. We were there in the middle of the afternoon, after the lunch rush, and before any dinner crowd had arrived. Yet, our server seemed to forget that tea glasses need to be refilled when requested, and not 10 minutes after the fact. Observing things, I thought maybe it was due to having to brew more tea, but then I saw her go to the tea bin that I had been watching all along....this was just complete inattention to a request that had been made, and perhaps a pre-occupation with catering to the two couples who were drinking wine by the glass and requested refills of their favorite white wine (perhaps bucking for the assumed larger tip, I would suspect). Those wine glasses did not have to wait at all, but our tea glasses remained dry until she was flagged down again.
Disappointed with the lack of service, considering there were less than 10 people in the entire place, to be certain. But the food was outstanding, and the fish tacos cannot be beaten by many places in my view. Just make sure your thirst is quenched before dining, or.....order wine. That will get you a quick refill.
