Owner description: Founded in 1986, the California Surf Museum mission is to preserve surfing heritage. The museum hosts a variety of cultural events from book signings to lectures, to movie nights to concerts. But the museum is most known for the wonderful rotating exhibits about surf and skateboard culture, art, and history. The whole family is welcome and you don't have to surf or skateboard to enjoy the museum. The California Surf Museum has been featured in Smithsonian Magazine, National Geographic, the BBC, the American Pickers "California Dreamin'", Hawaiian Airlines commercial, PBS "Getting Away Together" and many more. Don't miss the outdoor Secret Spot and Bethany Hamilton's surfboard while you are here. Also, shop the Museum Store for unique gifts and souvenirs. Joining as a member is a great way to get involved in volunteer opportunities and to support the museum on an annual basis. Hope to see you soon!

“Neat Place!”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

If you are a surf or ocean fan this is a must go. Its a fun way to spend about an hour and a great place for all ages. My 12 year old boy loved it! The location is around other things to do so when you are done you can grab a bite or head to the pier. Parking is ample and the customer service is lovely. Thank you for a good time. We will be back during the summer I am sure.

“Surfing history, but below museum presentation”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

Some curious surfing artifacts from the 1960s and later mixed with non-surfing time line exhibits (like Bobby Kennedy). This might be quite interesting to someone who already knew the history of surfing and surfboard design, but it is an incomprehensible jungle to those trying to learn surfing and surfboard design. They need a real editor. They need a real museum curator. They need vision.

This place is great. It's small, but very interesting, very cool stuff.

Get a background lesson on the surf culture and learn about some neat people.

Bethany Hamilton's board is incredible.

And Tuesdays are FREE!
