The mission is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. There are ruins to see and history to learn. My boyfriend and I loved it.

This self directed tour was amazing. The only fee is a donation. It was so peaceful and the brochure helped us identify what we were viewing. The hostess at the door was more than helpful and very pleasant. The fountains in the cemetery were wonderful just to sit at and enjoy the silence. We toured for at least an hour and came away with a sense of accomplishing. This is something that I have wanted to do on several occasions and never took the time. I recommend stopping and touring this historical Mission.

My great friend is buried at the Mission San Luis Rey and when I visit it is always peaceful and beautiful. The grounds are immaculate.
There is also a church and museum that you can spend time visiting and the views are amazing.

I'm on a mission (yes, pun intended) to tour all of Southern California's missions by the end of 2014, so I came down to Oceanside specifically for this mission.

I have to say I came away very disappointed. It's a huge area, with an extensive graveyard and ruins, but most of the areas were closed for a private retreat or private. True, the $5 admission fee for the museum was worth it, but the grounds were not well-kept and signage was sorely lacking. Also, there was a ton of graffiti around the ruins' fencing.

From the church itself to the cemetery, it was all beautiful & quiet. There was even a school there doing a field trip & we barely noticed. Every1 was very helpful.
Gift shop was great
Awesome to see the Mormon Battalion
