One of us had a basic but tasty salad, the other crab Benedict, which while very good doesn't deserve the rave that others have bestowed upon it. Good fresh juices but the Mocha, while tasty, came with a long dark hair... Staff very friendly, good value, humorous mix of tourists and locals, like snoring elders, pontificating young wine makers, and bohemian troupes waiting for the return of the circus.

Anyone who loves a great breakfast and excellent coffee will be overjoyed here. The original Eggs Benedict is indeed the best we've had outside our own kitchen. Other items on the menu were enticing too. Friendly and helpful staff also added to our experience here.

On a quest for a new breakfast spot this past visit to Bodega Bay, I found reviews for a couple which sounded appealing. One of them was Howard's Station Cafe, on the woodsy and aptly named Bohemian Highway in Occidental, about a 15 minute drive from Bodega Bay. It's a quaint town, known for its family style Italian restaurants just down the block. There are a few shops to browse, several charming inns, and there is Howard's Station Cafe, which is also a juice bar and bakery. Housed in a quaint historical building, the decor is straightforward with wooden tables and chairs and a wood plank floor. Depending upon when you choose to eat (they serve only breakfast and lunch) you may find people waiting out front, across the street, or scattered throughout a one block radius. This is generally a favorable sign. There are no fancy beepers or gizmos to alert you that your table is ready: the hostess will simply come out on the porch and bellow your name. Apparently, you've got to have a good set of pipes to qualify as hostess.

Service within the restaurant is relaxed and friendly. When it's really busy, the entire staff moves at lightening speed. Patrons won't suffer for lack of options: the menu is enormous. You can choose from waffles, pancakes, omelets, scramblers, oatmeal, fresh fruit, hash, biscuits and gravy, soups, sandwiches, burgers and salads, with the additional of chalkboard specials as well. I counted 5 varieties of sausage on the menu, several variations of eggs benedict and a couple of Mexican themed offerings. It's also notable as being the only place I've seen in ages that offers malts.

So far, everything we've tried has been really good. Portions are more than ample. My innocent-looking bowl of organic oatmeal cooked in apple juice with currants, apple, dried cranberries and almonds was easily enough for a family of three! It's a nice outing for breakfast, surroundings are pleasant, and their coffee'll put hair on your chest. Highly satisfying!

Howard's was suggested to us by a server at another restaurant when asked for a good breakfast place. The only mistake we made was driving up & over to Occidental from the Coast on Coleman Valley Rd. A bit to narrow, curvy, and hilly for one of us! Anyway, Howard's has a great juice & smoothie menu. I had the "Tina Louise", a soothing & refreshing combination of carrot, apple, and GINGER, of course! The breakfast menu is so enticing it was hard to choose. We ordered the Old Fashion Corned Beef Hash complete with biscuits & gravy and the Huevos Rancheros with a side of fresh guacamole. Generous & delicious portions. The place was packed for a Monday morning and service was definitely friendly but a little slow due to the volume of patrons. Word to the wise....go hungry (portions were generous but not wastefully so) and take CASH (No cards accepted). Would definitely recommend & go back.
