The food was amazing. Italian family dinner and the Tiramisu was the Best! We've eaten there several times and have never been disappoint.

“Historic hotel and classic Italian restaurant”
Reviewed November 1, 2012

Great value in a classic family style restaurant! Try their old fashioned bar as well. Nothing fancy but you will enjoy the old fashion ambiance.

“Act of Kindness After Hours”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

We arrived late for our womens retreat, missing the dinner hour. We searched downtown Occidential for a bite to eat. Our eyes landed on the historical exterior of the Union Hotel, Italian Dinning. Entering a side entrance our party was greated by a warm hospitable host, who informed our party regretably that the kitchen was closed for the night. We inquired if there was any other location where our famished bellies could get something to eat. To her knowledge nothing else was available and as we whinnied our dissappointment in girlish unison, Barbara graciously offered to see if she could put something together for us in her now cold kitchen. Max her ever smiling waiter sat us at a long table and Barbara proceeded to bring out to her after hour arriving, hungry clients the most vegetable loaded, deep tomatoe rich, exploding with flavor minestroni soup, an extremely large crispy organic green salad with sweet tomatoes, red beans, fresh with sweet flavor and these warm bread rolls, soft and flavorful. We ate every bite and were told not to rush and enjoy our meal. How pleased and honored we felt, as if we were long lost family.

The next day we returned, searching for a missing cell phone (which later appeared under a bed sheet). Upon stepping into the restaurant we received hugs and the warmest greeting from Barbara. She insisted on showing us her bakery and forced us to eat as a courtesy any pastry we chose. Our taste buds exploded with each bite of the delicious home made pastries and pies. My stomach is growling just thinking about them.

We informed our group, the women's retreat, of our wonderful experience with the Union Hotel's Fine Itallian Resturant and the next day as we departed our party bombarded Barabara with 30-40 women, tasting each others dish of choice, moaning in culinary delight.

“NOTHING SHORT OF AWESOME....”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

Our first time in Occidental.....we went zip-lining at Canopy Tours, and at completion, they gave us a free Bruschetta appetizer coupon. We were hungry, and was going to find a place in town to eat at anyway, so we decided to use the free app coupon and try the Union Hotel.....what a fabulous decision.....When we arrived, the patio dining area was very vibrant, which was a good sign....we got one of the last remaining tables. We were immediatley greeted by a very friendly waitress (and later found out part of the ownership family) Barbara. Her kindness, thoroughness, attentiveness, and knowledge, was beyond commendable. Let's get to the food.....Brushetta app was sinfully delicious.....the hot baked fresh rustic style bread basket was delicious....then the house Minestrone soup came....my god.....orgasmic....yes...I used the word orgasmic, becuase that is what describes the freshest garden style ingriedients I ever had in a soup, and ingriedient was jumbo sized. I the went with the build your own pasta bowl, going with Angel Hair pasta, Bolognese red sauce, Grilled Chicken, and mushrooms.....My wife went with the House Special of the day, the chicken pot pie....again....everything super fresh, and evrything jumbo sized. Our meal was topped off with a complimentary piece of Chocolate Mousse for my birthday...This dessert was again, sinfully delicious.....We are having our in-laws visiting from the East Coast in January, and will defintely be bringing them here to eat....Way to go Barbara, and your superb chef....you folks are AWESOME!

“Where cell phones aren't missed”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

If you want to spend an evening where the food is plentiful, along with fabulous;feel as if you are family; enjoy children along with adults filing the air with laughter, song and just old fashion dialogue then this is the place to be. Barbara and her family, along with all that work there are just wonderful. In all the years we have been going there I have yet to witness/hear a cell phone ringing! You just have to love this kind of an atmosphere in this day and age.
