We stayed over on a Saturday night for a nearby wedding and decided to spend another night and enjoy the area. Our room was spacious, the beds comfortable, and although it was full on the Saturday night we had no trouble with excessive noise. GREAT breakfast place directly across the street and all restaurants are within walking distance. They were helpful over the phone when I made the reservations and extremely easy going about our departure time on Monday. We will go back.

The carpet (in spite of the Owner indicating that it was cleaned last week) was disgusting. While walking around barefoot for 5 minutes, I noticed my feet had turned black. The towels were unclean and the owner was unapologetic when confronted with these issues.

The hotel was noisy, small, and it's clear why it's less expensive than the others. I definitely DO not recommend this place. This place is just gross.

We’re the kings of weekend trips and we always look for a place to have it all - scenry, relaxation, stuff to do, great price. This is it. There are many places around the wine country to stay but we’ve found that usually getting what we want means having to pay more than we want.
The hotel was inviting, friendly and completely accommodated our needs. The atmosphere was very warm and small town. We felt welcomed there.
We wnt day-tripped to the beach, rode our bikes…..... Occidental is a very unpretentious town, small with local artist shops and good food with more choices than you might expect.
If you are looking for fancy wine country, this is not the place to find fancy spas and "California cuisine".
Don't expect perfection if you plan to go here! Plan for sandals, fabulous wine from a cup and affordable!
We will definitely keep it on our list for great weekend trips..

I truly don't understand the favourable comments by other travelers about this motel.
The rooms are tired and dingy. The bed covers are almost completely polyester, the bathrooms smell dubious and our tub had burn marks on its plastic rim. The first room that we were put in had a wet carpet and a wet-dog smell. The owners were rude and begrudging about moving us to a dry room, even though we were very polite and all it took was swapping out one set of keys for another.
Worst and most annoying of all, this is one of the loudest places I have ever stayed. The walls and floors are paper thin. One hears every foot step and word in rooms above and to either side as well as just about everything going on outside the doors. We were woken early on a Sunday morning first by upstairs guests leaving and yelling to one another as they did so, then by room service vacuuming above our heads at 8 am, then by someone's car alarm repeatedly going off - the cars are immediately outside the bedroom doors.
I would never stay here again. Occidental is lovely and the one breakfast place in town was fabulous, but this motel is over-priced and lacking in everything but the barest necessities.
At one point my husband needed a glass for some water and I unwrapped and handed him one of those located by the in-room coffee maker. He had a mouth full of toothpaste but he looked around the room, at the none-too sparkling bathroom, at the stains on the ceiling and the plastic feeling bed covers we had taken off the beds so we wouldn't have to touch them and shook his head saying 'fecal matter'. That about sums up how we both felt, I think. And we're really not that picky!

This establishment offers both a cabin or a semi-detached studio or 1-bedroom suite for rental. We stayed in the suite, which was large and very comfortable. It has a great reading corner with comfy chairs and views of the woods. The bed and linens were great, and the owner, who lives in the property, helpful but completely unintrusive. Great place to stay.

Occidental itself is a tiny but very nice village to stay. We can recommend the Occidental Hotel. We had a very spacious room with 2 queens at reasonable price. Opposite the hotel is a very nice restaurant/bakery for having breakfast or lunch. For dinner you can walk to one of the (3?) restaurants in the village.
A very peaceful place!

This is the only "reasonably" priced hotel in Occidental-so we stayed for one night. It's pathetic! From the grouchy clerk-we asked for a "quiet" room to the shabby decor-this isn't worth it. Our quiet room was in the middle of two others, and on the bottom floor. Due to old construction-you could hear everything! It sounded like a herd of elephants on the floor above-and when the fan was on it sounded like a jet engine. It's dated-and not kept up. A few miles down the road (in Sebastapol) we spotted a sparkling Holiday Inn Express. You can have an Italian dinner in Occidental, and then a quick drive will take you this better option. Do it!
