The Silver Oak Winery in Geyserville was the first of over 20 wineries we visiited on a recent week long trip to northern California. We already knew Siver Oak makes excellent Cabernet and we wanted our viist to Silver Oak to be a baseline for the rest of our tastings. For the tasting fee of $20, you are given samples of two vintages of Alexander Valley cab and two vintages of Napa Valley cab. (BTW, Silver Oak only makes Cabernet Sauvignon. It's sister winery, Twomey, makes other varietals.) Again, all four wines we tasted were excellent. But, the tasting was very business-like and lacked the atmosphere and warmth we experienced later in the week at other wineries. We did appreciate the staff's suggestions of wineries we should visit as we continued our trip into the Anderson Valley. Overall, Silver Oak is worth visiting if you want to taste excellent wines you may not normally drink because of the cost, or if Silver Oak is something you regularly drink. If you're looking for a longer tasting experience with a variety of wines that are more affordable, Silver Oak is probably not fo you.
