I only live about 60 miles away from this hotel, and used it for one night for a work conference. The staff is very friendy, check in was efficient, the hotel is modern, beautiful and immaculate. Food was okay. Room was also in great shape, modern and quiet (although heard the TV through the adjoining door between rooms - why do they have so many adjoining rooms???) Bed was very comfortable.
If you are going to Oakland for the attached convention center rooms - very conveniient. It is in the downtown area, which is pretty much a concrete jungle. If you are from out of town, San Francisco is close via our commuter subway system, but there is not much in the area to attract and Oakland is known more for it's crime rate than anything else. This is not necessarily a bad neighborhood near the hotel, but I would not walk it at night. Not much foot traffic either. There is an attached parking garage to the hotel and there is a daily charge for parking. I don't know the rate, since it was included in the conference - but just an FYI for you.
