at Days Hotel/Oakland. We are not extremely picky people, we do not travel with pillows or sleep machines. We strive to be as easy-going as possible. We experienced challenges with our flights (nothing to do with hotel, of course - only a way of explaining why we were anxious to reach the hotel), so after rising at 2AM Eastern Time we were anxious to reach the hotel since our plane landed at 6PM Pacific Time = long day. We called and had to wait over :55 for the courtesy shuttle - after being told it would be less than :15. We knew the shuttle serves several hotels but :55 was outrageous. Driver was very kind and helpful. Once at the hotel we did not have to wait long to check-in, always a good thing. Once in our room we quickly realized the a/c was inop. We called the front desk asking to have it added to the list for the following days repairs. Also the next morning and every following morning of our visit we reminded the front desk in person. We were there for 4 nights - a/c was not touched. It was unseasonably warm during our visit, our room was stuffy and very warm. We kept the a/c and blower fan set on high. We did ask if they had a fan we could borrow, to no avail.
We will return to the Days Hotel, we are hoping our luck will return and all will go well. We are hopefully optimistic. Overall all was OK. My travel partner recently had knee replacement, the meds kept him quite warm. The lack of a/c was a huge issue for him, certainly out-of-the-ordinary for us. Thankfully I always travel with an ice pack, it helped him stay a bit cooler.
I gave the Days Hotel a 4-out-of-5/Very Good rating due to our past experiences and the fact the hotel is convenient for our needs. The beds were fine, towels were plentiful, adequate parking, room was clean, etc.
We were disappointed the Charlie Chan restaurant was closed. Certainly not fancy but it was fresh, hot and plentiful servings - at affordable prices. I asked the Front Desk about it, I was told it closed over 6 months ago. I mentioned they might want to tell someone to update the website. Two other groups planned to join us at the Days Hotel since it was so affordable and had on-site dining. Once there I called and advised them the restaurant was non-existent. They opted to stay elsewhere that included a made-to-order breakfast, in spite of the daily rate being twice that of the Days Hotel. Convenience is important, especially when traveling with children. (Front desk mentioned the hotel is in the process of interviewing other potential restaurant options for the on-site restaurant. Time will tell how that proceeds.)
