Days Hotel Oakland Airport-Coliseum
Ranked #11 of 49 Hotels in Oakland

We stayed there one night before flying to Seattle for an Alaskan cruise. The price is very reasonable - I was sure I had misunderstood the price quoted. We used the "Park and Fly" package. Staff helpful; rooms spacious and shuttle on time. There was a chinese restaurant on location. We didn't use it. There were plenty of fast food and coffee shop-type restaurants around. Very close to the Oakland A's baseball field and to the Coliseum. We used the shuttle to return from the airport to claim our car. No complaints!

First, let's be charitable and begin with the positives:

(*) The price is right. I paid about $68 a night for a room with a fridge and microwave, and didn't get a special rate. That's pretty good for the Bay Area core.

(*) Desirable amenities. The inside-the-room safe held my laptop, and the building includes a fitness center and laundry room.

(*) I would have preferred a newer and firmer mattress, but my room was just fine in all other respects. (Although the mattress did *not* have mattress encasements, which I think all motels should have to discourage bed bugs, as I have taken pains to point out in my other reviews on this site.)

(*) Good staff, good cleaning crew, usual serviceable buffet.

(*) The Coliseum BART station is fifteen minutes away on foot. (Although some out-of-towners may be uncomfortable with the neighborhood they'll walk through to get there.)

And now, the negatives:

(*) The south wall of the Days Hotel faces the parking lot of 8460 Enterprise Way, which seems to serve the Actde Benevolent Hall and the Amalgamated Transit Union.

Why do you care? Because some sort of big motorcycle shindig occurs there regularly. The brr-BRR-BRRRRAAAAAAA of the Harleys was bad on the night of Friday, May 20, and much worse on Saturday, May 21. I travel with the best 30 db ear plugs I can buy, and had to mash them in to the point of pain to block out the sound. Without the plugs, I would have been up until two or three in the morning.

A staff member told me this is an occasional, recurring problem; that the Days Hotel won't rent to the motorcyclists, but that other hotels might. For what it's worth, I spotted the motorcycles tooling in and out of the lot of La Quinta, next door.

You'll find this problem mentioned in at least one other TripAdvisor review, under the heading 'Not Very Pleasant' at http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g32810-d80456-r17089911-Fairfield_Inn_Oakland_Airport-Oakland_California.html . Again, many motels are in the area, so the brr-BRR-BRRRRAAAAAAA must disturb many sleepers.

How about if you ask for a room on the north side of the Days Hotel? That might help a little, but not much. The bikes must tool up and down Edes Avenue, too.

(*) Almost unusable wi-fi. It was bad on all three nights of my stay.

(*) Days Inn needs to replace the corridor carpeting and re-paint the chartreuse doors. The room itself was fine, as noted, but the hallways are almost what you'd expect in a penal institution.

Bottom line: it's really not the fault of the hotel, but I can't recommend this place until the area hotels band together to do something about that recurring motorcycle shindig. It was perfectly quiet on the night of Sunday, May 22, and a traveler might take an educated guess that there won't be a problem here on a weeknight -- but for a weekend stay, it's a crap shoot that you won't wind up here on the same night as the bikers. Caveat emptor.

I had an early morning flight out of Oakland and didn't want an early drive into the City so I can the night before and stayed here. I selected this property because they have free airport shuttle and you can leave your car during your trip for $5/day.

The property is a little old, but the room was clean and the bed comfy. Had a large TV in the room and desk. Thumbs up for free wifi. Check in staff was OK, check out staff very friendly. The free breakfast is juice, toast, cold cereal and coffee. I was expecting a little more in that area.

I had a non smoking room, but the corridor had a smoky smell. My room was fine though. Only soap and shampoo provided, not other toiletry amenties (no lotion or conditioner). Ice machines not on every floor, so you have to go upstairs or downstairs on some floor.

Overall, the convenience of location for the airport would have me stay here again. The shuttle was right on time both times I took it.

We stayed here for 3 days and the stay was wonderful. The front desk staff was great and were very helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay again when I come back to this area. The location was excellent as far as restaurants, and shopping. All in all it was wonderful. My hats off to the front desk staff.

My dad booked two rooms for five people. We pretty much slept and left, the room was clean and quiet. The smoking hallway was fairly smelly, but the room was OK.

Carpet is not very clean, but room overall is good. The bed is very comfortable. Bathroom is small. If you stay at 4th floor and above, water pressure could be a problem. Breakfast is basic. Restaurant opens late, which is convenient. Wal-mart is right on the other side of highway.
