“Interesting facts”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

For a $9.00 (with student i.d.) and $12.00 regular admission, it was worth the price. The Suburban dreams photographs exhibit that runs until the end of June was amusing. The domestic display of everdays life was intriguing yet pleasing. The Gallery of California history gives informative backgrounds of the numerous diverse people and their stories. An array of artifacts display represents the different eras of California ancestors ranging from the Native Indians ~ to the present evolving technologies.

“Ever changing, always a new experience”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

The Oakland Museum of California seems to have something new and interesting every time I visit. It is also nice to view the galleries and exhibits I've seen before. They are like old friends, always something new about them to discover and explore. It seems that i can never see it all in one visit. The gardens also allow a peaceful moment to reflect on everything i've seen. Sp often there are deep themes and questions embeded in the art or natural science displays that need pondering.. i am always lured for a pause into the upscale cafeteria and it's California cuisine of fresh local foods. The gift shop is a treasure trove of tasteful, beautiful and unusual items.

“WOW - what a great time!”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

We attended one of the Friday night events where there was entertainment, food, drinks, and demos! The atmosphere was very upbeat and festive - the people (both patrons and staff) were happy and helpful - the weather was perfect. The night we were there they had both music and poetry readings, which was a great mix. There was a pie demo, which was very well done, and their samples were outstanding!

“The New Natural Sciences Gallary Looks to Be a Grand Success”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

As a member of the recent docent class training to provide you an excellent experience at the new gallery, I can only say that from previews it is going to be a great addition to the Art and History galleries at the museum. Opening on May 31, Friday evening. I recommend you check it out as soon as possible. The gallery is organized around seven ecological hot spots in California and speaks to the biodiversity being threatened by human interaction. It has great interactive displays, brings back the best of the former gallery and provides a nod to the great redo at the Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park and the Monterey Bay aquarium. School kids will love it. Take it all in soon.

“Take BART across the San Francisco Bay and Visit the Oakland Museum”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

While in the San Francisco Bay Area, take a ride across the Bay to Oakland and visit a fine museum of California art and history. The art section includes excellent temporary exhibits, such as the current one of an extraordinary Chinese-American artist Hung Liu, as well as innovative installations of work by California artists past and present. Among its treasures is the complete collection of photos by pioneering 20th century photographer Dorothea Lange, who left us an ndelible record of the effects of the Great Depression, among many other important images. Another focus of the museum is California history. This museum is worth a visit. Don't miss it.
