Always a wait to be seated because the ramen is made with such skill and care. The hippest bowl of noodles you'll ever eat and worth every penny and minute of your time. We sit at the bar to watch the zen like kitchen preparing each bowl. It's a great experience.

“Favorite in East Bay (that's saying a lot)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

9 out of 10 visits to the East Bay is scheduled around and includes eating at the Ramenshop. Although pork based ramen is popular among afficionados, I like their vegetarian ramen in shoyu-meyer lemon broth. It's the perfectly balanced acid/umami bomb. Don't skip the fried rice because rice/ramen seems redundant. I order it every single time. They also have a great cocktail program. Badminton cup royale is refreshing way to kick off the evening.

Be prepared to wait. No reservations. No to-go. Incredibly popular but totally worth it.

“The bill was how much???”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

Granted, the Ramen shop's fare is good -- the freshest of ingredients go into their dishes. But honestly, it's really hard to justify spending between $15-17 for a bowl of ramen -- and if you imbibe their specialty drinks (some as much as $10 a drink if not more), you're looking at a pretty expensive evening. I can't criticize the food -- it was quite quite good. But part of me wonders if the restaurant isn't trying to hard to cater to the hipsters.

“Way Too Expensive”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 31, 2014 via mobile

Our dinner was very, very tasty, made with care from the freshest ingredients, but all we had was two appetizers, two bowls of soup, and two beers and the bill was $106.

Um, no. Not again.

“Delicious gourmet ramen”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 13, 2014

The place is a part of Oakland's food renaissance and serves excellent food & cocktails in comfortable, hip surroundings. Only open for dinner, which is a shame. A little pricey for a bowl of noodles in broth with a few condiments, but a small premium in price for top notch quality, and wonderful setting is a fair trade.
