Perhaps a somewhat unsettling venue, this is an inspired spot when its famous springtime tulips are in bloom.

Head to Oakland's Mountain View Cemetery for peaceful jog, walking your dog or just enjoying a view of the Bay Area with a cup of coffee. Fantastic sunset views as well. Great place for contemplation and seeing historic graves of California's "founding fathers." Designed by same architect that designed NYC Central Park.

Families like mine have multiple generations buried here, and we see many folks just running and/or "sightseeing" on the hillsides. Go to the center first and get a guide to famous burial sites, but really stop and see the changing demographic of the bay area reflected in the names, and the markers of people from all around the world.

Originally designed by the landscape architect who designed the Stanford campus, a good bit of UC Berkeley, and NYC's Central Park, this place feels like an idyllic park with green rolling hills. What makes it truly worth the visit is the stunning views of downtown Oakland, the Bay, and SF. On clear days you can see Mount Tam in Marin, and even further North.

Rambling and rolling over green hills, this cemetery is beautiful. I'm a photographer, and there was a feast of beautiful funereal sculpture to treat my eyes and camera. There is little logic I could find in the layout - each corner held more beautiful places and sights. This is truly a mecca for any interested in unusual cemeteries as I am.
