We ate here 3 days in a row. Needless to say, we enjoyed the food, it was very reasonably priced and it was convenient to our hotels. It was about a 10 minute walk and in what looks to be a somewhat rough part of town but we never had any issues. I hope to visit again in the future!

I have a ritual with one of my adult sons: we meet periodically for breakfast at Rudy's, since it's near his place of work. That will tell you a lot: we like it enough to keep going back. Food is delicious, service has always been very good, there is parking (incredible in Emeryville), and they serve tea in a real pot with a handle that will not scald you. Eggs are always cooked the way I asked. Lots of vegan choices, and they are flexible about substitutions. Tell them what you need or want, and they will find a way to deliver.

I've also been to Rudy's very late at night (11pm), and been happy with it then, too. It did not acquire the creepy ambiance that some late night places get after 10pm.

The only negatives are small but worth mentioning:
(1) The booth seats are miserably uncomfortable. Fortunately the chairs are very comfy. So if need be, hold out for a table rather than a booth.
(2) At times when a popular joint is likely to be busy, Rudy's is busy. I personally would not go anywhere near that place for brunch on Saturday or Sunday. They are good about the sign-up sheet, but be aware that half of Oakland, Berkeley, and Emeryville will be trying to get brunch there at brunchy weekend times.

The crowd is heavy on hipsters, but speaking as a middle-aged mama, I've always felt like a cherished customer. It's a mixed crowd with a friendly vibe.

I was a frequent customer of Rudy's in Emeryville, and couldn't be happier that we now have one in Oakland. As an Uptown resident, I have been there various times of the day and have had a consistently positive experience.

First of all, they have a huge selection of food on their menu (breakfast anytime--yeah!). There seems to be an equal amount of meat and veggie options. Meals are solid--and if something comes out not as expected, they will make it right. Our fries once came out cold and they took them right back and in minutes we had brand new hot fries we were craving (probably has to do more with timing of the table's food in general). They also have weeknight specials for dinner that are consistent and posted clearly.

In addition to food, Rudy's has a full bar and some really interesting alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. They serve Peets coffee!

You can't beat Rudy's hours! They are open everyday from 7am-1am! If you are lucky enough to have a weekday off, they have morning specials for $5.

Rudy's gets very crowded on nights that there are concerts at the Fox or Paramount and for brunch on weekends--good for them--nice to see restaurants succeeding in Uptown!

And the location is great--right out of 19th Street BART so it's even a viable option to come here from anywhere on the BART line!

Finally, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. My partner's mother is disabled and they always help us with storing the wheelchair and warming up her food from time to time because it takes her a while to finish.

So...if you are in Oakland, it is definitely worth a visit!

First visit to this restaurant in downtown Oakland and what a find it was. Good food served promptly by an attentive server. Good selections on the menu, from breakfast to salads and burgers. There are a ton of vegan choices as well. Really friendly environment. A good choice for lunch or breakfast.
