Downtown Oakland, west of Lake Merritt and close to the Jack London Square, amid newly built Condominiums, the City is revitalized.
Unfortunately Broadway has suffered for lack of businesses, that have been targeted for vandalisms.

Hard to think of "Old Oakland" as a destination attraction. Surely there is no there there, and probably never was. Go to Fourth Street in Berkeley if you wish to stroll in the East Bay.

We were there on a Friday and enjoyed walking around the farmer's market. Many samples-interesting fruits and veggies. Some ethnic type foods and some alternatives for dairy. It was truly a farmer's market, not overly filled with flower stands, meats, cheeses, etc.

Bums, addicts, homeless abound. Needs to be cleaned up. Disgusting. I will not be out after dark. Make that day, too. No thanks,

I don't know why the Trip Advisor app gives an address of 835 Chester for Old Oakland. The area designated Old Oakland (complete with banners on light poles) is more than a mile away, between Clay and Broadway and roughly 8th and 10th. There are a number of well maintained Victorian buildings. The Historic Housewives Market on Washington is worth looking inside, for a wall mural giving its history. If you are in the area this small district makes for a pleasant stroll.
