Owner description: Chabot Space & Science Center inspires and educates students of all ages about our Planet Earth and the Universe. Its historic telescopes and observatory, planetarium, hands-on interactive exhibits, and natural park setting are a place where students, teachers, and the public can imagine, understand, and learn to shape their future through science. Chabot's three large telescopes are open to the public on Friday and Saturday evenings.

We went up one evening for night sky viewing and were really impressed. The telescopes are something like 130 years old, and it's a real testament to their craftsmanship that the viewing was awesome. (Of course I don't have a lot to compare it with, but still) Very mixed crowd - couples, singles, people with kids, and the sweet couple in front of us who seemed to be on a first date. The line for the viewing looked long but went quickly. Afterwards we went inside and took a look at some of the exhibits - at least what was accessible in the evening. Lots of engaging stuff for kids. Definitely recommend.

We had nothing to do so we thought we would check it out. It was a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours. My 10 year old son did learn some things but in order to do so, I needed to get him to read the exhibits. When he did, he enjoyed it and definitely talked about what he learned. But I don't know that it would be good for younger kids although I did see some of them there. There are some interactive exhibits but not a ton of them. But we did enjoy the time we spent there.

From time to time, they let you in to see the stars at night for free. It's so awe-inspiring to see outer space in their impressive telescopes!

I love this place for adults but it is amazing for kids. They do have some adult oriented night-time events as well. Great in the day or night to gaze at the stars.
