and we weren't disappointed!! Malfatti (gnudi) by some accounts is a Bay Area creation but its barely on the menu today Bellanico's malfatti was had wonderfully light touch with plenty of chard and an almost fluffy texture, perfectly matched by the sage brown butter. Burrata starter with nettle and cipollini jam was creatively done with everything working together. Wine list has some great choices by the glass. Panna cotta dessert was delicious.

This is a neighborhood restaurant - the Glenview district has difficult parking and is not on any convenient public transit - but its well worth the visit - just plan on a little extra commute time.

And I have to compliment our friendly server, Nick, for a nice evening.

We'll be back to try the rest of the menu and the wine flights.

We’ve been to Bellanico a half dozen times and each visit has been excellent. We really enjoy the variety of dishes, which are great for sharing, and the wine flights to sample Italian wine. The fried meatballs and bay scallops were especially good at our most recent dinner. As the tables are close together, you can check out what others are eating to help with your own order.

This is a wonderful, intimate restaurant in a lovely semi residential area in Oakland. The "Glenview" area is a bit of a gourmet ghetto with no less than seven restaurants in a two block area. But this is my favorite largely because of the terrific food and wine menu, but also for the great, friendly staff. The sunchoke fritters and farro salad are my favorites as well as the house made beet ravioli (awesome believe me!). Great for take out and for sitting at the bar as a couple or single. This place can get busy so make a reservation just to be safe. Parking is an issue but there are parking valets you can use in the area. You will love the attentive staff - they always make me feel welcome!

Five of us went to Bellanico for brunch. It's a small place, but we were seated immediately. Service was very (appropriately) fast after we sat down, and we checked out what everybody else was eating, and then ordered. I can't remember what we all ate...but it was all good. Really good. I do remember eating pork belly, which was scrumptious. No problem with the service.
It was fast and professional. Next time I'm in Oakland, I will stop at Bellanico.

We are frequent diners at a really nice little neighborhood restaurant in San Francisco on Portrero Hill called "Aperto," so when we read that its sister restaurant, "Bellanico," was in Oakland we decided to try it. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a bad idea. The meal started out good with the same warm and savory rosemary bread that Aperto serves, and the warm organic farro salad was truly delicious. Unfortunately, that's where the good part ended and we really do try to give independently-owned restaurants the benefit of the doubt! Next, the brocolli soup came out and it literally had no taste whatsoever. Not even red pepper flakes could give it much flavor. Then the main courses arrived, which included the tagliolini pepati with tomato sauce and chili flakes and jalapeno peppers (ordered vegetarian without the bacon and also usually excellent at Aperto) and the stinging nettle and meyer lemon risotto. The tagliolini tasted like canned tomato sauce had been used with completely seeded jalapeno peppers with uncharacteristically no taste. To make matters much worse, I had ordered the dish without bacon because we're vegetarians but they had put bacon in it. The risotto was a little better than that but it still was a bit too salty and lacked the flavor we've come to expect from Aperto's kitchen. We're giving it an average rating only because the host, one of the owners and the waiter came to our table to apologize and they didn't charge us for the tagliolini.
