“Lots to like at Bocanova, Jack London Square”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

Bocanova has been a favorite for quite a while. Interesting menu that changes seasonally. Well prepared and presented. Lots of favorites on the menu - try the quinoa salad and the ribs. Delicious. First Thursday of each month features a owner Rick Hackett's First Thursday supper - a special prix fixe menu with wine pairings included. Bocanova also offers a great wine club option. Delicious and affordable selections each month.
Not to be missed : bread pudding with Mexican chocolate ice-cream. Absolutely habit forming.
Warm days/evenings can be enjoyed on the patio overlooking the estuary and marina,
Jack London Square is home to a growing number of great dining options, but for me, it is hard NOT to go to Bocanova!

“Great Tapas Style”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is one of my favorites in Oakland. Best to enjoy "tapas" style - order a bunch of appetizers or entrees and share. The "fried peppers" - usually shishito are fantastic. I can eat an entire plate myself. The papas fritas (fried potatoes) are excellent, too. They do great job with quinoa salads, too !

“Under appreciated gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2014

This is a great summertime spot, a good looking, sleek restaurant that consistently kicks out interesting food from its kitchen. Large and sometimes loud but a great after work spot for the 30 something crowd.

“A regular hangout for myself and friends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014

In the summer, you cannot beat the view and the Happy Hour menu of bar bites and beverages. Grazing is a practiced form.

I've also eaten on the bar when off to a party/event where food maybe iffy. Service, food quality, presentation is consistent.

Lucky enough to live in the neighborhood, Jack London Square - which now has many food gems. Kudos to Bocanova for being the first in the area.

“Good food, small portions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2014 via mobile

This is a beautiful restaurant but we were seated in what appeared to be an "overflow" room next to a large and very noisy party. The portions were very small but quite tasty. The sunchoke parsnip soup was good, as was the lobster shrimp ceviche, well flavored and tasty. However my daughter ordered the flat iron steak for $27 and it was tiny! It was well prepared but really a joke at that price. We were not pleased and though we didn't say much other than a comment about the steak size, they comped us the dessert. And it was excellent, a chocolate croissant pudding with gelato on it. For more than $200 including tip, it seemed like we should have enjoyed it more
