“Lovely location”
Reviewed June 14, 2014

A real jem in the middle of Oakland. A great place to walk, jog, push the stroller or have a picnic on the lawn.. There is a fantastic farmers market on the East end of the lake each Saturday. A large variety of birds winter there and bird watching is also good the rest of the year. The Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge and Rotary Nature Center is great for children and there is a playground right next door. Across from that is the Lakeside Park Demonstration Garden. In the spring and summer the flowers are wonderful. Sundays in July, from 1-3,there are band concerts on the bandstand. We live close enough to walk there at least once a month to enjoy the beauty of the lake and park.

“Beautiful”

Very family friendly. Walking distance to local shopping. Parking can be a challenge but if you get there early you can find prime parking spots & walk to shopping. Every Saturday morning there is a farmers market.

“Just Great”
Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

I enjoy just about everything when it comes to Lake Merritt! Just about everything you can do is at Lake Merritt. A huge attraction is the staircase where lots of people run up and down for exercise. Taking a stroll or running the lake takes about 45 mins tops, burning around 350 calories or if all about distance it's about 3 miles. It's a great place to bring kids of all ages. There's two wonderful parks, which I take me son who loves the swing or step across the way to the library. So much grass everywhere so picnicking and or bbq'ing is ideal. Or if your feeling like a kids adventure then Fairyland it is. Always a treat for the kids and very reasonable! There's so many great restaurants to eat on Grand Ave or Lakeshore or even towards downtown. But let's not forget about the famous taco truck that's stays open till 3 or 4 in the morning. It's located near Merritt Bakery and the tennis Courts. Now don't get side tracked by Rockin Crawfish which is yummy!!!

Lake Merritt is such a unique place to visit withs tons of exciting things to do. Adults can see a movie at the grand Lake Theatre or in the evening stop by any of the local bars or lounges for a cocktail.
In all if your looking for a diverse place, go to Lake Merritt where everyone fits in!!

“A great place for a picnic, a stroll, a run, or a first date”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

Lake Merritt is called the "Jewel of Oakland" and that sobriquet is well deserved. It is a lovely lake, a bird sanctuary, and a delightful oasis in the urban core. about 3 miles in circumference, the area is dotted with small pleasures, including a permanent bonsai exhibit, the fun Lake Chalet, Venetian gondola rides, boat rentals, and the ever-delightful Children's Fairyland. If you have some time to kill in Oakland, visit Lake Merritt.

“just keeps getting better”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

If you are a tourist then just skip visiting lake merritt, not a big deal just a man made lake. as a local is really a good place to take a walk or run. takes about 45 mins to walk the lake and the city has been fixing it and making it better and better every year. Back then it was smelly and just not a very pleasant walk.

good day off and exercise spot for the locals.
