We use the parks frequently and find them well taken care of, friendly employees and lovely locations.

Sibley is a volcanic preserve. Yes, there is a dormant (NOT extinct) volcano in the Bay Area! Next to Sibley is Huckleberry which is a botanical preserve. For people interested in plants this one is a must. On the other side of Huckleberry is Redwood, my favorite park. If you want a cool, shady hike take Stream trail and enjoy the beautiful Redwoods. If you want a long hike take East Ridge out to the Canyon Staging Area and take one of the other trails back.

The community has helped preserve open space in a large number of parks in the area. Lakes, hills, vistas, horse trails, bike trails, and plenty of gorgeous hiking venues.

The East Bay Regional Park System consists of numerous parks, most of which are even accessible by public transit (BART [train] and AC Transit [buses] which leave from every BART station).
From swimming to hiking, from picnic-ing to biking, from Redwood groves to awesome vistas of the S.F. skyline and Bay, from horseback riding to star gazing through a giant telescope, there are literally HUNDREDS of miles of parks just minutes from downtown San Francisco!! Most have little or NO admission fee.

The EBRPD parks are an awesome, and contiguous collection of open spaces where you can walk, hike, run, take your dog, ride your bike - or horse if you have one. Redwoods, a fish ladder for the endemic rainbow trout (which was actually first identified there I believe), picnic areas, great views.

I have walked from El Cerriito and Wildcat Park to Lake Chabot, 32 miles in a (long) day, and the variety of scenery, and the people you meet, is amazing.
