Wind your way up to the Oakland hills and marvel at one of the most spectacular urban setting in the world. Near sunset is best.

“A gem, a jewel, a place for all to enjoy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

Dogs and people co-exist on many of the EBRD trails; horses may cross your path. Huckleberries along the side in the summer. Meadows. Picnic sites. Great stands of redwoods. Have so enjoyed taking my dogs off leash. When they get dirty, there is a hose to wash them down before leaving the trail. We have encountered witches celebrating solstice; galloping grey hounds; wonderful people and not-so-wonderful people. A slice of all, in a perfect setting. Sometimes too much dust; sometimes mucky; always exceptional, nevertheless.

“This is why people live in the East Bay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

If you don't like a variety of fun activities, breathtaking views and easy access do not go to the park.
A good golf course, a steam train, a nature center and zoo, picnic grounds, hiking trails and and and
From almost anywhere in Berkeley it's a 15 minute drive up the hill

“Short hike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

Took Shady Glen then cut across to Indian Joe Trail. Love this park... have backpacked across it to Del Valle in the past. Lots of trails, lots of views, great staff and DOG friendly :)

“wonderful selection of hikes”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2013

the East Bay parks are gems. the selectionf hiking trails is great and the maps are clear. We often hike at Briones because one gets great views and can do a circuit. We have hiked in most of them and they are all very good--Sunol, Black Diamond, Sibley, ..the list goes on. Some have limited parking and others charge a nominal fee. In the spring these parks are green and many have beautiful wildflowers. A great resource.
