On arrival we were greeted by a friendly female member of staff and even though we arrived before check in time, we were given a tour around the property and given a run down of the history which we all found very interesting - particularly the different uses of the property over the years and that previous guests had included John Wayne and Marilyn Monroe! Our rooms were quickly prepared, which we were very grateful for so that we could leave our bags before heading off into the park.
Our rooms were situated along the main corridor, we were room 1 and our friends were room 9. Both rooms were a reasonable size with plenty of furniture of storing luggage and an addition of a table and chairs so you can sit looking out if it is too chilly to sit on the balcony. In room 1 the bathroom was very compact, and was a bit of a struggle for my 6ft husband to move around. We also had a problem with our toilet constantly running water and although someone came to have a look, there was nothing that could be done at that time and so we had to remove the cistern lid to stop it every time, a bit of an inconvenience as we were only staying one night. The style of the rooms was very much in keeping with the rest of the property with thick bedspreads on the bed and in room 1, a massive rustic wooden headboard.
The building was very beautiful, with a lovely fire in the main room and as our visit was between Christmas and New Year, a ginormous Christmas tree! There were several other common areas that could be utilised by guests and books and board games available too which we put to good use. The restaurant on site was closed at the time which was a shame, but there were plenty of food places near by and we were given recommendations of where to go. The breakfast that we had in the morning was a bonus too, self service waffles which were great, a selection of small muffins and bread, juices and coffee.
The hotel was in a great location, very good views from the property itself and it was also nice and close to Yosemite National Park.
